Apparently women are being told not to wear gel-filled ( I never knew they existed) bras on planes. Amazing the restrictions here, and just how the hell can you fashion a weapon out of a wonderbra??
When I arrived in Vancouver the last month I got my carry on searched through and my pockets emptied and they did check out my mp3 ..while everyone else got to walk off unmolested.

You can replace the gel filling with gelignite, apparently.

And when will they ban implants (yes, I'm talking about breasts here)?

Is "chinese whispers" like "telephone"?
It's exactly the same, but with a rather more dubious name. I'm not sure of the etymology - it's either a hilariously racist Imperial throwback, or completely innocent. Anyone know?
I guess the name itself could actually be a "Chinese Whisper" through the ages. HOW IRONICAL.

That "Sheiks on a Plane" story is both hilarious and deeply saddening.
Hilarious because of the adamant chavs that were on the radio this morning defending their actions. You have to laugh. Sad because, well, it's obvious.
Liquids shmiquids. When people start implanting/swallowing bombs what are the security services going to do? Xray everyone? Yeah, right! Scratch that - I can imagine compulsory full body CT scans in the US. Shudders. Well, at least you'll get to know if you have undiagnosed brain cancer.

So if this really was a big government plot, how were they allowed to do this? All these terror warnings hurt the economy, how the hell were the politicians who cared about ever more volatile approval ratings allowed to hurt the economy for small popularity gains? The system failed here, the godamn system, did this happen before, and if not, what changed? It isn't good when #1 dumbasses ascent to power and #2 nothing can stop them.

I don't think anyone suggested it was an X-Files style government plot. Generally I think the views range from a belief that threats are exaggerated and fears played upon for political gain (ie; greater control), to a suspicion that such things are then used to justify aspects of policy (security/foreign/etc) which many feel are sometimes less than wise. None of these stances necessarily stem from the rejection of any possibility of terrorist action, or from a belief that any actions are fabricated. That should go without saying, really.
And in actual news: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5271998.stm) Ch-ch-ch-ch-charges (turn and face the bombs)
I'm a bit dubious about "chemicals" and "electrical components" being cited as bomb-making equipment - in a general sense I have both of those things in my house too. Hard to argue with "I WILL DIE FOR THE CAUSE" videos though, if indeed that's what they are.

Not just that Paz, but we were told that the terror threat was "imminent". Now if a threat is imminent (ie about to happen) I'd expect fully formed bombs to be found, not just the ingredients that could go into making a bomb.

There's a damn fine line between infringing the rights of citizens and catching people with malicious intent as they walk through the airport scanner.
9/11 and 7/7 fucked up the wrong side of the line, and people died. I'd much rather they fucked up with days to spare and really annoyed people, to be honest.
