How long have you been at Black Special StD? Years I bet. It sounds all woooo but isn't it just "Be cautious of ticking packages!" or some such crap?
I would be very sceptical about this whole thing ('sup I hear a labour minister quit yesterday confirm/deny) except I was in London and wanting to use the tube when the July bombs went off. And that was very real.

Do you even understand what you write?
Christ, learn to fucking read.
"I bet this plot is bullshit" IS NOT THE SAME THING AS "This plot
is definitely and unquestionably bullshit"
It means on the
balance of probabilities this is
likely to be bullshit just like the last X million of these "plots"
were also bullshit. Fucks sake, you're a gambling man, I thought you understood these things? And you call
me the retard.
And when I say that these plots have been bullshit before, these aren't things I'm pulling out of my arse.
Before: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3690506.stm) TERROR ARRESTS OVER DIRTY BOMB PLOT
After: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5176522.stm) TRIO CLEARED OVER DIRTY BOMB PLOT
6 Apr 2004: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3603961.stm) CHEMICAL BOMB PLOT FOILED
7 Apr 2004: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3607141.stm) FOILING OF PLOT JUSTIFIES BRITISH TERROR ALERT
Aug 2006: Still nobody charged over this "plot"
Before: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5042724.stm) RAID POLICE HUNT CHEMICAL DEVICE
After: (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5066166.stm) BROTHERS RELEASED WITHOUT CHARGE
Now, only time will tell of course, but I think
it is likely that this will turn out the same way as every other one of these "foiled plots" that the government has patted itself on the back for that have later turned out to be utter gash.

Nobody is maliciously making these threats up. This isn't the X-Files.
Inventing/Escalating/Whatever You Want To Call It. It all amounts to the same thing: threats being exaggerated for political gain.
And when I say the terror threat is minuscule, I look at it this way. 52 people have been killed in (the solitary act of) terrorism in the UK since the 9/11 terror attacks in the USA. In that period of time more than
3000 people have been killed on Britain's roads.
So sue me if I am capable of putting things into a perspective that many other people aren't; I'm also capable of not believing every little thing my government tells me. When my government tries to use this "foiled plot" as justification for all manner of illiberal and draconian measures over the next few years, the rest of you fuckers had better not moan and whinge about it. Some of us saw it coming.
Also Bob, why you felt it necessary to [sic] my correct spelling of minuscule has got me a little puzzled. Would you care to explain?

Well, this thread was almost interesting for a while.
Do you think you could refrain from being a complete asshole Stronts? And are you still foolish enough to let RBJ get a rise out of you?
Turtle on 10/8/2006 at 18:35
No it wasn't.
Don't fucking lie.
CyberFish on 10/8/2006 at 19:07
Ok, Stronts, I'll quite happily take that bet of yours. What will you accept as evidence that the plot was real?

A solitary conviction for plotting to perpetrate a terrorist act, or, in the event of the predecease of the alleged perpetrator(s), a cast-iron case against [at least one of] the deceased.
This is assuming trials aren't abolished by our neo-fascist government in the interim, of course ;)
Gingerbread Man on 10/8/2006 at 19:27
Dig around in your handbag for your lithium, Stronts. I think you missed this morning's dose.
I'm all for competing viewpoints and healthy splashes of cynicism, but you're wandering into rabid territory and you're usually much more articulate than that.
CyberFish on 10/8/2006 at 19:28
Ok, that suits me fine. If they all get acquitted or released without trial, then I'll accept that as evidence that the plot was quite ephemeral.
If they're still being held without trial a year from now, all bets are off because one of us will probably have left the country.
