They're special anti-terrorism helmets, equipped with cameras and tiny machine guns.

Very sensational, yes.
On another note, it just occurred to me that whoever may or may not have planned this may have been mainly intending to bring down the transport system in some way, a bit like the bombings last year. If this is what happens, nobody has to necessarily even carry out any bombings to get a "result".

A crisp English ten pound note says this threat is as real as the UNDERGROUND RICIN PLOT, the DIRTY BOMB PLOT, and the FOREST GATE CHEMICAL WEAPONS FACTORY.
What would I know, I only work for the Government :joke:
Yeah, best ignore it eh?

Or maybe this "plot" is in fact a device to cause massive numbers of people to congregate in the terminal buildings at airports, which is where they detonate the real bombs.

Yes, I'm sure Scotland Yard keeps all disgruntled civil servants in the loop :p
Well, I'd
at least expect a heightened state of alert. But we're still at Black Special here. Given that we went to Amber after the 9/11 attacks that occurred on
an entirely different continent, one would reasonably expect an "imminent terror threat" in this country to cause a little more of a ripple.
My first thought on hearing the news was "What a load of horseshit". My second thought was "What are they trying to keep off the front page?".
Call me a cynic, but since the twin towers fell, we have experienced a solitary terrorist attack in this country, and our intelligence agencies utterly failed us on that day. They're really good at shooting innocent Brazilian plumbers on trains and innocent secular Muslims in their own <strike>chemical weapons factories</strike> homes, though.

It is impossible for a terrorist attack to be carried out in this country. Rather than it just being, shamefully enough, an example of excessive, opportunistic editorialsing of a nonetheless quite feasibly real event, the event in question is actually not going to take place, because I know better. No terrorist attacks have ever taken place in this country, and any reports of such being averted should be treated with complete contempt. Cancel the temporary security measures, hell, turn off the metal detectors and let's make up for lost time. We don't need them.
This is a reasonable and adequately-thought-out response, and by making it I am both rebelling against what I see as some kind of conspiracy and bringing it down singlehandedly. Don't listen to anyone else, because I know best.

So, how many of these "foiled terror attacks" in the recent past have been genuine?
Ricin plot - no
Menezes - no
Forest Gate chemical weapons factory - no
News Of The World Dirty bomb - no
I guess if you finger enough people, you'll eventually get a terrorist, but I'm willing to bet that the 21 people arrested today will never be convicted of anything approaching terrorist activities.

How much are you willing to bet? Name a sum.

oh fuck me you're right! The fact that the police have, in the massively increased effort to uncover terrorist attacks before they happen, made some mistakes, however bone-headedly (or in the case of de Menezes, inexcusably), and so far not convicted anyone for conspiring to blow shit up... that means that there will
never ever ever be an attempted terrorist attack on Britain, and that God forbid someone act on some information in an attempt to avert an attack and make some middle class cunts late for their connecting flight to tuscany in the process!
I don't understand for one moment what it is you're trying to say you'd rather see. Yes, the editorialising of these events is frustrating and patronising, yes it's probably going to be used for political effect and to support an extremely fishy regime with asiprations of a nanny state, but that
doesn't mean for one second that there is no possibility that something might, just might, be planned.
How about the foiled bombings in Shepherds Bush etc a week after the july 7 bombings? How about Richard Reid? The police fuck up all the time, but there are still things going on and to sit back and say WELL GUYS IT'S OBVIOUSLY BULLSHIT... LOL BU$H AND BLIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to everything that happens is so internet it is unbelievable. U got strontium dog'd.
