Yes, I'm sure Scotland Yard keeps all disgruntled civil servants in the loop :p

I rate this as a MAGENTA LEVEL TERROR ALERT - slightly higher than the gay-pride pink level.

Hray, I have to get a flight on the morrow!

A crisp English ten pound note says this threat is as real as the UNDERGROUND RICIN PLOT, the DIRTY BOMB PLOT, and the FOREST GATE CHEMICAL WEAPONS FACTORY.
Either that or we must thank Tony again for dicking around with Bush in the middle east.
perhaps badly worded?

Not that the idiot (Tony) will ever understand that his government is responsible for all the current terrorist attacks against Britain. After all, God spoke to him and told him that following Bush everywhere was the right thing to do, so who are we to argue?

Can you still bring snakes on a plane

I recommend sending them by post instead for the time being.
Seriously though, I doubt it was a total non-threat, they seem to be talking in quite unusually extreme language - "mass murder", "unimaginable", suggesting it would be worse than 9/11, blah blah.
But who knows?
scumble on 10/8/2006 at 12:39
I'd say one should reserve judgement for the moment. It must be quite easy to pick up the whiff of outrageous bomb plots, but whether any of it is likely to come about is another thing entirely. Things may have been misjudged, this could be an over-reaction, perhaps John Reid wants to "sex up" a few threats so he can get his groovy anti-terror legislation through soon.
We'll have to see what happens...

Regardless of what this was, it's rather irresponsible for Scotland Yard to leak quotes like "mass murder on an unimaginable scale" to the press and suggest LOOK OUT FOR A BACKUP PLAN LOL (assuming they did and that's not journalistic licence in use).
It translates as: "We can tell you nothing about the incident we just prevented, except that it is TERRIFYING and what's more it could still be TERRIFYING." Great. Thanks for that helpful advice.
However, major geegees if they've managed to foil an actual plot this time!

They are doing that already - "mass murder on an unprecedented scale" etc. We all know what happens when you detonate a bomb on a plane, the only purpose in using such dramatic language is to stir up fear and justify further extensions of government power.
I don't doubt that the threat is/was real in some form, but it goes without saying that the government will try to capitalise on it as much as possible.
EDIT: Paz got there first.
