Yeah, I saw that thanks. Its what made me think of this thread and also how the steps are now going to be slow enough to perhaps not care but significant enough to actually make a difference.

The Nexus One isn't 'coming out' in a few days. The official announcement of what the Nexus One is is in a few days. And then it gets sent to developers in a month or so, and then it comes out in March or April or something.

My 24 months ends officially with 02 tomorrow!
However, due to the excitement about the Nexus One and all manner of thrilling and sexy phones coming out this year I am going onto a 20 quid a month Simplicity until such a phone I want is released.
Its going to be Android though. Android is mega. Not sure of Nexus is going to be released in the UK though.

Yeah, I still view android as evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. Nexus one looks like a step up over the Droid, which was a marked step over the first round, but the difference between carriers is probably more meaningful than the hardware differences. If you can wait until the Nexus, more power to you, but you won't regret getting the droid now rather than waiting a few months.
Android is pretty slick in any regard. I heartily endorse it, and my phone's been getting better and better as I've tweaked it myself, between apps and custom UI.

I mostly like the Droid, but I don't care for the keyboard and I want the smaller, sturdier form factor of the Nexus One.
The problem is that it's going to be on T-Mobile. So, just like the G1, it's going to be useless to me and generally overlooked. :grr:
Hopefully, a revised HTC Hero is in the works.

(
http://google.com/phone) Looks like I was wrong. Can be purchased right now, $529 unlocked, $179 with a two year T-mobile contract. Coming out for Verizon and Vodafone later this year.

Ships to the UK too! And for less than £350! That's £100 cheaper than the Droid. Wtf ha ha ha.

Sweet. Some sites are saying the Nexus will be out on Verizon in the spring. Bandwagon, here I come.
As an aside, I wonder how the hell T-Mobile stays in business in the US. Their coverage is even worse than Sprint.
SubJeff on 6/1/2010 at 01:39
Why not get it now? I'm going to get one and when this contract is up in April and I'm due a phone upgrade, +/- contract tweak, I'll just unlock and eBay the most expensive phone they are offering to recoup the cost.

I'd love to, but it wouldn't be that usable. The current version has a GSM radio that will only work on T-Mobile and AT&T here in the US, and will only get 3G data rates on T-Mobile.
T-Mobile's coverage here is a pitiful joke. There's generally no access in rural areas and even suburban areas are spotty. So that option's out. AT&T's network is a lot better, but who wants to buy an Android phone to use with a low speed data connection? I don't, so that option's out too.
Verizon's network is CDMA, so they need to roll out a new model with a different radio. I could get the Droid now at a discounted price, and then upgrade to the Nexus this spring. But I'd be paying full price for the Nexus and the Droid wouldn't have much resale value. I'm not jonesing for a new phone bad enough yet that I can't wait a few more months.
