A funny thing happened this week - my phone broke.
I've been enjoying (both at home and at play) a Nokia N95 8GB which I have had on a contract with 02 for the past 18 months. Its a fantastic phone, I've used it as my mp3 player and while its no iphone in terms of what it offers in productability; its been a faithful companion.
Anyway, this week it simply stopped working and the screen refuses to switch on - hence, busted.
Ok, so my issue. Since I've used my Nokia exclusively as my mp3 player, I suddenly find myself at the behest of the gods of apple with the following options:
1) Wait till Jan 5th 2010 when I can upgrade my contract and get a new phone/mp3 player in one (not necessarily an iphone, but it does seem attractive) - this is the most economical.
2) Use a replacement phone and purchase a new mp3 player (ipod touch?)
3) Give up and move to Ohio.
What do you reckon? Also it raises an interesting thing - when people think of mp3 they immediately think of Apple and the ipod/phone. And do you swing both ways with your mp3 player as your phone? While I admit its really nice to have it all in one and not have two huge bulges in your trouser instead of one, its nice to have a separate media device.
Anyway, thoughts, opinions, rants.

Personally, I find both MP3 players, and Cell Phones, with very minor exceptions, useless crap.

HAVE YOU TRIED SWITCHING THEM ON, BLACKMAN?

On topic:
I'm very happy with my iPhone, much happier than I ever imagined, only real gripe has to be battery life.
If I was you I'd wait till the 5th of January and get an iPhone.
Having everything in one apparatus is really only annoying if it dies on you, so the real question would be is this something that happens to you a lot? Of course variations in production quality can result in anybody having to deal with a broken piece of equipment, but there seems to be a group of people that manage to break stuff more frequently.

Thinking of getting an iPhone fonz? It's a cold day in hell today.
I use the MP3 player on my iPhone. It works. But can you live with 16-32Gb of space?
I also had an iPod touch, and much as I loved it, it was redundant when I got my iPhone - there was simply no reason to carry both around. Unless of course, you don't want to drain the battery on your iPhone which does go down a little too fast for my liking.

Wait for Droid.
I was going to get a HTC Hero to replace the Blackberry Pearl :eww:, but with the announcement of Droid I'm waiting to see what the reviews say.

Yeah, that's actually what I've been thinking about - I'd much rather use Droid over selling my soul to the demons at Apple.
Ulukai - I don't deny the iphone is completely revolutionary and I see it for the device it is; but at the moment is there really anything to rival it?
I do prefer all my media in one device though...

I can only think of a few reasons not to get an iPhone.
1. You do all your email on your phone, in which case the touch screen keyboard won't let you type quite as fast as a real keyboard.
2. You need to do real work stuff on the phone, like looking at Word documents or spreadsheets.
3. You want a better web browser.
4. AT&T's coverage sucks in your area.
I'm not sure how Android is going to work out, but I'd rather sell my soul to Apple than Google. Apple just wants to control my phone & computer. Google wants to mine my data and sell it to advertisers and who knows who else.

Why? Really, I'm not trying to hate... but what is the driving mentality that says I GOTTA HAVE! when it's just a fucking phone?
Uh, because it's not just a fucking phone anymore, OK? The fact that it makes phone calls too is almost becoming a secondary feature.

I suppose another option is simply to get a really good media player and stick with a basic phone that does just that - text and calls.
Besides; I'm a geek - who the fuck wants to phone me :)
The iphone is handy for the following reasons, near as I can see:
1. all in one
2) google maps is very sexy
3) proven record
However, all the other shiny bells and whistles? No thanks. Besides, something has just dawned on me:
I fucking hate itunes with a vengeance.

Cellphones... Yuck.
Who the hell do I want to talk with all day long, like people do? While I'm driving. While I'm shopping. While I'm taking a shit. Bah! In my mind, they've become yet another useless distraction, and one you have to pay monthly for.
There's always those who are going to be yakking about utter shite all day to anyone who will listen, but you could always get a pay-as-you-go phone.
A phone is invaluable in emergencies - breakdowns, needing a taxi in the middle of knowhere, dialing the emergency services etc. and now I can have the Internet with me (almost) everywhere I go. Screens on smartphones make Angelina's boobies a decent size, too. No brainer, really.

Personally, I only know one person who
has to have the latest phones. He has more than four, to my knowledge. But then, he's a cock.
