I cannot get this bug to work, that allows you to downgrade Pistol on the start screen and still have Pistols trained when you start on Liberty Island. The descriptions I have read all make it sound nice and simple. Here is what I did:
- started a new game, selected "Hard", typed a Real Name
- Downgraded Pistols to Untrained. Therefore was left with about 6700 points
- Started game, watched cutscene. Arrived on Liberty Island
- Went to Skills screen. Had 6700 points still and Pistols was Untrained like I left it.
Am I doing anything wrong? Or might it have been corrected by a patch or something? I honestly can't remember whether I've installed any patches for this game.

I, for one, would love to know why this bug isn't working for you. :) I am playing with the latest patch, but I am using the skills points right at the Character Creation screen. Maybe it is the reason why it isn't working for you? I have started a game for... well, ten games, and I always had this bug.

Well, it works fine for me on realistic. Latest patch.
Although, the laser sight on liberty island is all you'll ever need for your pistoling OR darting needs for the rest of the game, if you ask me.
