Holy smokes - yeah the 1.004v really changed the wild territory. I have to wonder if Alife is so unpredictable that a small change in code results in weird but interesting new features and mob spawns.
Bardak wrote that pre-1.0004 there was an error in the code that caused Wild Territory to be isolated from game world.

isolated from game world
What's that mean?
"Isolated" infers there is indeed Alife NPC migration between zones.. but where is the horde of undead rat spawns coming from? Yantar is the only possibility and I don't remember them being there in patch versions 1.000-1.003.

I don't know what he meant, I can only suppose. I think he meant that WT gulags (areals for NPCs) either weren't replenished by engine at all or were replenished in a limited way + migration between WT and adjacent maps was turned off.
BTW, as for "Alife NPC migration between zones" - it indeed exists. I was in doubt about it some time ago, but that's already is a proven fact. People followed NPCs across few maps. It may not work everywhere and with every NPC, but the feature really exists in the game. It doesn't work when a given type of NPC is forbidden for a map, but if NPC is allowed and it's not binded to a gulag - it can cross transition points.
