The general lack of exploitation of solar energy is pretty shocking though. I mean, all this money and research to try and get fusion to work profitably, when there's a truly gigantic fusion reactor IN THE SKY, pumping out energy constantly.
And hey, roads are already black, so replacing them with photocells won't change the earths albedo in any significant fashion (as opposed to, say, replacing the sahara desert with photocells, which probably would).
And the high maintenance argument doesn't really hold up either, since roads as they are anyway are already high maintenance.
Well, we can dream, right?
