Hypothetically speaking, if Red-Ray becomes new standard in 5 years, will you buy all your favourite movies for the fourth time?

The wave-length has to get smaller, my boy.
The next color would be purple-ray, then ultraviolet ray.
Personally, I'm holding out for crystal-lattice memory sticks. Then I'll find some program that'll just burn all my BluRays on to the stick ... as long as we're speaking hypothetically.
I can't imagine that high definition can get much higher ... so I don't know how much better movies on media bigger than BluRay could be.

Emphasis mine to indicate the colossal level of record scratch that comment induced.
:laff:You took the bait!
Note I don't think it's crap and can see the appeal but I simply have, for whatever reasons, never liked it. I
really wanted to, my friends, my brother raved about it and I was so excited when I sat down to watch it but very disappointed by the end and rewatching it has done nothing for it. I will say that Alan Rickman is fucking aces in it though. For me 'The Terminator' was always my yardstick for the perfect action film, followed closely by "T2", "Hard Boiled" and "The Road Warrior".

As for your other comments, yeah... but no, I guess I'm saying there's a big difference between cerebral entertainment (of the likes you mention) and popcorn cinema entertainment (but not to the level some would go to... I have standards).
I agree there is a difference but meh, we're only arguing over semantics here
and I was really only riled up because of previous discussion I have had with people over what can be 'fun' or not.
Oooh! The Third Man!

A touch off-topic, but on the topic of video-media, since I got my iPod Touch, I've decided to concentrate on getting movies for it (I already had another MP3 player for music, and for things like long train rides, hotels and waiting rooms, I'd rather have the movies anyway). The security features rub me the wrong way -- I don't like that feeling I never unequivocally "own" a movie I buy, but since they're pretty much just for my iPod it's tolerable.
Just no, don't buy a fucking thing from Itunes. Just rip your existing DVDs or CDs to your HDD and convert them to an economical format that's readable by the player.

As has been mentioned before, I'm pretty sure Red-Ray would be the equivalent to DVD.

As someone unlikely to own any sort of screen bigger than 22" in the forseeable future, I think i might be giving this generation a miss.
I might invite myself around to a friend's place to watch T2 on his telly tho!

That's what I wanted to do ideally. But I got a $50 gift certificate just for iTunes, and it would be rude not to use it. And I'm even more picky about music I can freely move around, and I couldn't think of $50 worth of music I really wanted anyway, and even then I'd get it for the other MP3 player, not this ... So I thought I'll just buy movies I'm only going to use on my iPod.

What's the latest on region-free Blu-ray players? I definitely want to upgrade, but I wouldn't want one that only plays European Blu-ray disks, especially with Criterion doing their thing for the new format as well.
Are you actually in Switzerland, as your location suggests? If you're going to get a region-free player anywhere, surely it's going to be there. One of the best things about the second-hand laptop my uncle gave me at Christmas is that, being Swiss, it automatically came with a region-free DVD player.
For those who don't know, the Swiss passed a law back when DVDs were new banning the sale of region-specific players.

I thought you were going to make a region-neutral joke there, Jenesis.
