I have a very specific question about a certain kind of gameplay (see below), but it might be interesting to open the thread up to other, similar questions, so please feel free to ask them below.
Anyway, here's my question: is there a game that's basically Portal Combat? By this I mean something along the lines of a Portal deathmatch game, where you're in an arena with other players and none of you have any weapons, but you have portal guns (or the non-Valve equivalent thereof) and have to use portals in combination with the environment to kill others. Sudden drops, turrets having a clear line of fire on your opponents, that sort of thing. I imagine that such a game would be hellishly difficult to balance, but I could also imagine it being fun. Has there ever been such a game?

No idea, but I'm registering Portal Combat™ right now! :D

I think there were some early mods making a Portal DM after it came out, but don't think any went anywhere.
It's really odd when you think about it, seems like Competitive Portal would happen by now. Even if its terrible the sheer novelty would give it some momentum.
You'd definitely need to make some tweaks to the formula not to create obnoxious gameplay, like griefing by creating portals at player feet that drop them into lava - wait not that'd actually be awesome.

Portal 2 Co-OP was pretty awesome.
Favorite puzzle being the one where you had to have both players jump at the same moment and collide mid-air to land in the right place. Neon Evangelion gave me the idea for the solution to that one.

A quick google search of "portal deathmatch" brings up a fan map on Steam for it that doesn't have so many downloads, and a number of Reddit threads where they all tell the same story, that Valve tested competitive and deathmatch Portal and said it just wasn't fun and descended into tedious chaos after about 5 minutes. So that's why they never ran with it. Play the fan map and see what you think, I guess.
