Emma Watson is jailbait as fuck though (not any more technically)
I had a flatmate who got entirely too excited about Emma Watson in the 4th film D:

Technically?

Christ, they fucked this up so much I hardly know where to start. The script managed to exclude precisely the most significant points in the book, the relationship dynamics were utterly mishandled, and the direction was almost as bad as Chris Columbus' fist-fuckery in the first two movies. It was like Yates was rebelling against the tyranny of the narrative and decided to make it his own by doing the exact opposite of what was expected: he was grand when he should have been muted, muted when he should have been grand, fast when he should have been slow, and slow when he should have been fast. Have you ever heard a cover of a great pop song where it was obvious that the 'artist' was so completely convinced of his or her own genius that s/he managed to ruin something you never thought could be ruined? That was what they did here.
HBP was the weakest book in the series, in my opinion, so I really wasn't expecting a lot when I sat down in the theatre, but I expected them to at least conform to the book. But then conformity is the enemy of true art, isn't it? Whatever. I'm not that upset, because while I think that the novels were brilliant examples of the storyteller's art they weren't great literature. I'm more aggravated at how badly they blew the chance to do something cool. I just hope they don't step on their dicks as badly with Deathly Hallows.

I completely agree with everything you said. Except it was worse for me because HBP is probably, arguably, my favourite of the books.

I really enjoyed the film, but the one thing I found interesting is that the whole story of the "Half-Blood Prince" was just thrown in and contributed nothing, really, to the plot beyond supporting the title. It was as if, "Hey, I have a potions book with some really sweets annotations in it made by someone calling themselves the Half-Blood Prince. Now back to teen angst and luv."
It would have been better to just remove all of the Half-Blood Prince stuff, and focus more on some sort of central theme, instead of trying to capture the highlights of the book.
As for those that hate the movies because the don't follow the books implicitly, I'm actually glad they don't do so. For me, I'd rather the movie version be different than the books (sometimes completely) as I already read the book. Why watch that which you already know by heart from the mental image you have created through you're own imagination?

Wait, you actually watch that?
