Oh yeah I heard that rumour. Yet another terrible idea.

On the bright side it give you twice as much to complain about on the internet.

Yeah I thought it might have been to avoid repetition but since they're splitting book 7 it doesn't make as much sense.
I actually thought what they did in lieu of the official funeral was really good, but it follows a giant anti-climax. (I also thought dumbledore kicking ass in the cave was really good and that made the ensuing Bad Wizard's Picnic at Hogwarts even more disappointing.)
Also not having Dumbledore paralyze Harry makes a negative difference, I think.

Yes, it seems a bit lame for him to just stand there like a lemon.
Also, more to complain about? Yay!!!

I dunno how or why they're splitting the 7th book into two parts. The vast majority of the last book could be summed up with "hey we're in the woods and we don't know what to do so lets bitch alot NO RON NO DAMNIT RON". Not exactly the best material to span over 4+ hours.
If any movie had to be split in two to conserve on story, it should've been Order of the Phoenix.

snape kills dumbledore

I'm vaguely guessing that the split will be after they get the sword but like I say it's been forever since I read them so for all I know that could be 30 pages in or 30 pages from the end.

It's been ages since I read that book and I didn't care for the movie all that much, but it did manage to capture all the beats of the overarching series plot, which is really what these movies are all about, anyway. Deathly Hallows, on the other hand, is nothing but overarching series plot, so there's not that much that can be conceivably cut (at this eleventh hour, at any rate).
The nothing-but-plot nature of Deathly Hallows is also what makes it one of the worst books I have ever read.

I wouldn't go as far to say it's one of the worst books I've read - ultimately it was an enjoyable read as part of the series. It just dragged on far too long in the middle and it would not have suffered from being cut down.
However, given the length of the source material, they can probably get two decent films out of the last book if they give each one focus.

Emma Watson is jailbait as fuck though (not any more technically)
