Hardware acceleration and EAX

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium, but this problem probably affects all recent sound blaster cards, and I can't turn on hardware acceleration or EAX in Thief Gold, in Thief 2 i can turn on hardware acceleration but no EAX. I've tried compatibility mode, no luck. Running on Vista 32bit, btw. Any help?

EAX is buggy anyway in TDP/Gold, you may find all the important sounds are buried and muffled under reverb.
