I can't speak for the other guys but we were really great friends for years. We always clicked and it was a breeze hanging out with each other. For some reason neither of us ever tried or thought about taking the friendship anywhere else until one fateful summer. I can't tell you the what changed etc but we are both glad it did.

My wife and I basically clicked as potential partners without realising it a long way before we were into each other*, we were both into different people, very different in personality/outlook/approach, and through the course of 2 years in a friendship that grew closer and more and more removed us from our larger group of friends. As we became closer we started to alter each others behaviour, trying to influence her in her likes/dislikes and vice versa, we were priming each other for the relationship. By the time we were around fifteen and a half we were ridiculously into each other and it was just a shared respect/fear of breaking the friendship line that held us back until I kissed her on her sixteenth birthday.
* That's not strictly true, I was into her before she was into me - on my first night hanging around with this new group of friends the slutty girl of the group propositioned me and said that I had the choice of any girl in the group to kiss. The guys of the group took me aside and told me that girls #1 and #2 would totally get the mack on, but I chose girl #3 who they said wouldn't and they were right, she didn't - she eventually turned out to be my wife.
