Still, Thief Deadly Shadows is one of the best in the Thief series.

And that beautiful loot glint... ah! [emoji14]
I always thought that TDS is a good game and a worthy sequel to T2. The body awareness thing never really bothered me, the lack of rope arrows isn't a big deal either, and I didn't mind the new visual style. It's odd that Garrett has suddenly forgotten how to swim, but I only see that as a positive thing - the swimming bits in T1 and T2 were terrible. The loading zones were somewhat annoying of course, but wasn't there some sort of a mod a few years ago that kind of removes the loading zones? So I genuinely still haven't figured out why TDS gets so much hate, but let's not start that discussion again. :D TDS does have its flaws (but so do the other games in the Thief series) of course, but at its core TDS is still very much a Thief game in my opinion.
lol I agree. Still have hopes of playing through it again one day on a nice computer.

At least you can swim again in the Dark Mod unlike Thief Deadly Shadows.

it would be better to have entire thief 3 remade in thief 2 newdark
would be interesting to see enforcers in thief 2 new dark, from what i remember they were the most difficult to deal with next to gamal

Great idea! Someone should make a Thief Deadly Shadows Thief 2 Newdark mod for the game. I wonder if it's even possible?

Even if it was possible, it would be pretty much pointless. The levels are not designed with rope arrows and swimming in mind.
mcmike1489 on 4/6/2019 at 03:37
Yeah, true. The swimming function is gone and the game would look very weird without it.

good news all there is a map of thief 3 in thief 2 you can demo its amazing and some missions have been made on it,its has swimming and rope arrows
just have to make more parts to the city/seperate areas then layout the missions like thief 3 ,but a lot of the city is done

I remember now, there is a fan mission of South Quarter in Thief 2 that someone made as a conversion. I played it before.

Playing through Thief DS again after not touching it for at least 10 years. I remember being bitterly disappointed when it first came out, though most of the technical reasons have been taken care of the community so huge thanks to all that put their time into it.
I feel like I have to rant though. It's still really confusing that this game was what it was. I know it got screwed over by the Xbox hardware limitations but the design flaws go much deeper. Like the general art Style, simplified level design, dialogue and voice acting are drastically different (and worse). It bugs me that they really failed miserably in capturing the tone of the previous games.
So it dawned on me as I’m about to start the Clocktower mission how TDS came to be:
Thief DS was the result of a studio assigning a Lead Game Designer / Artists to the project who never played the originals, and everything they learned about them is what they read or someone told them. In other words, they never even looked at the prior art for T1/2 very closely and certainly never played through. Then shortly after production began, the lead game designer got hit by a blunt object. Kidding, sorta. The AI cues are nonsensical at times. The amount of contrast in textures is vastly different, so everything is flat and muted. If you took a screenshot from a dozen medieval looking games, Thief 1/2 and DS included and asked someone to guess which 3 pictures come from the same game series they would always guess T1 and T2 correctly, but they’d almost never guess TDS. The team making TDS took virtually no direction from T1/2. But the biggest sin IMO though is attaching the camera to the player model. That’s a low IQ blunder I haven’t seen in any other game to date and the more I think about it the more pissed off I get. Kidding, sorta.
OK that negativity out of the way, it’s still in the Thief style and I’m having a moderate amount of fun playing it again but I’m having to hold my nose shut on a lot of stuff.
