It's been 12 years since Halo 2 had its PC release, and now the rest of Mr. Chief's adventures up to (but not including) Halo 5 (
https://www.pcgamer.com/halo-the-master-chief-collection-is-coming-to-pc/) are getting PC ports. Microsoft isn't even holding it hostage in its own storefront either, surprisingly, as it's already got a page on (
https://store.steampowered.com/app/976730/Halo_The_Master_Chief_Collection/) Steam. Reach and ODST are getting releases along with the main games, which technically makes this the Master Chief and Also That One Guy Nathan Fillion Voiced and Also Noble Six Collection, but that doesn't quite have the same ring to it. The games are set to release one at a time as the ports are finished to make bug-ridden disaster less likely, and are each being sold separately (because of course they are) presumably as some kind of DLC.

I've always felt that, while fun, the Halo games are incredibly overhyped for what they are. That said, it's nice to know that a batch of competently made big-budget singleplayer games not totally overrun with microtransactions are getting a release in the near future.
EDIT: Didn't see that this was already in the THREAD OF HYPE, which I forgot the existence of for some reason. Nevertheless, there may be enough people who play down the line to warrant this thread. If not, Mods can feel free to delete this thread.

Eh, probably deserves its own thread anyway.
There's a LOT wrong with the Halo series, but the encounter design and 'gun feel' is pretty exceptional. To me, that makes the series well worth playing, overhyped or not.
P.S.: If you want to try just one, go with Reach.

I picked up Halo 2 for the ol' XBox not too long ago, and I've been playing pieces of it whenever I visit my folks. Doesn't quite live up to the original, but still pretty fun.

I played all of them up to 4, not including the RTS spinoffs, but I'd definitely agree that Reach is overall the strongest, which is why it baffled me that it wasn't initially included in the compilation back when it came out.

It IS called the Master Chief Collection, after all. [emoji6]

Well if there was ever an indication that Microsoft is actually for real serious about PC gaming again, this could be it.

Apparently each game will be released and sold separately. My only concern is the steam listing shows that "3rd-Party Account: Xbox Live" is required for the game. I'm just hoping this doesn't mean that we will need an xbox live membership to use the game's online features/modes.

I'm curious about the Halo games due to enjoying Bungie's Destiny games a lot for the feel of their gunplay and traversal. From what I've heard, the Halo games have that too. While I'm not that much into shooters anymore, I still enjoy a shooter that makes the moment-to-moment gameplay feel exactly right.

I remember the first Halo being like that, having to strategize from moment to moment and it being satisfying. The issue was that the strategizing took place in giant, mostly empty levels.
