Our language is very soft. Like infant's skin.
W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie.
W białodrzewiu jaśnie dźni słoneczno,
Miodnie złoci białopałem żyśnie,
Drzewa pełni piszczelą i pasieczą,
A przez liście kraśnie pęk słowiśnie.
And yes, Kraków is wonderful. The five years I spent there as a student at the University were the greatest in my life so far. ;)

Also, what the fuck kind of phoneme is PRB, anyway? Polish is a goddamned eldritch tongue, I'll tell you what.
It's "prabnasky" actually, a word I invented to summarise what I think of most Eastern European languages. Curunir thinks I'm convincing. DROLZGY

That's part of the problem, I can't make out a single word because people speak so softly.
Yesterday we did the touristy thing of going to the Wieliczka Salt Mine just outside the city, which has been in operation for hundreds of years. There were hundreds of people there and the tour was a bit rushed, but never mind. Managed to get a few half decent photos.

http://scumble.net/images/krakow/shaft_stairs.JPGThis is the initial shaft, with stairs down to the upper level of the mine. I didn't get a shot from the top, as it was difficult to stop without holding up everyone behind me. It's not fun when you can't go at your own pace.
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/upper_level.JPGHere we are at the bottom of those stairs. Annoyingly, the sign doesn't say how far underground we are. I think it was 60 or 70 metres underground. Very humid down there - damp smell etc.
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/salt_growth1.JPGAs we walked around the tunnels it was possible to see growth of white salt on the walls. Mostly it is grey salt down there.
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/salt_growth2.JPGSome more growth on the ceiling.
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/large_chapel.JPGThere are a large number of chapels in the mine, and this is the largest one.
Apparently the miners were a bit religious, because mining was a fairly dangerous occupation. I suppose they thought they better make sure they were going to the right place if they got killed. There is a lot of sculpture work out of solid salt in there, a lot of it apparently by various miners who worked in there.
Unfortunately I had trouble getting a decent photo because of the poor light levels. I had to process a fair bit to get details out, so it looks a bit grainy.
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/sculpture.JPGI didn't realise you could get such good results out of salt...
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/sculpture_backlit.JPGHere's one lit from behind, so you can see the grey salt is actually transparent to a certain degree.
Inline Image:
http://scumble.net/images/krakow/chamber_supports.JPGFinally, this is one of the larger chambers, about 130m underground with a lot of support work. This seems to give a better idea of scale in a picture.

Speaking of Halo, ya know what other game is getting a movie based on it? Dead or Alive! (
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q1U6vGV2tzM&search=DOA) CHECK OUT THE TRAILER!
I think it'll be good but then again I though Charlies Angels and Charlies Angels 2: Full Throttle were pretty good.
PS. I'm not a 14-y.o. girl. Really.

So are Postal and Far Cry. And then I'm filming a movie called "Uwe Boll Gets A Restraining Order"
:(

Damn you henke. Clearly this thread is about my excellent photography. All this due to one foolish deliberate mis-spelling...

For some reason, the photo of the chapel in the mine reminds me of the climactic scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Great shots of the buildings in the town. I hope Poland doesn't start doing what Russia has done to some extent - i.e. aimlessly tearing down beautiful old buildings in the name of progress.

clearly these photos are faked, because as any good american knows, the sun doesn't shine behind the iron curtain in the former soviet bloc countries.
