I must have an anit-SS2 aura then, which is strange given how I can make everything else work. 'Everything' being a very broad statement, I admit...

What kind of errors are you getting when you try to run it? Have you ever messed with the compatibility modes or anything like that? For some reason they've done nothing but hurt me. :weird:

The game always acts the same way. On my system at least, I either install a crack, or it won't start at all ('This program has died, send report to microsoft y/n?').
With it installed, I can do anything except start the game engine. If I load a game or start a new one, the spinny thing comes up, and when it's done I get a black screen. Then all that's left is to use the taskmanager to kick the program out of memory, 'cause it comes up as 'not responding'.
And it does that on every single AMD/Nvidia computer that I have tried it on. No exceptions. Anything else it'll work just fine on.
I made a thread about it when I turned up here, but no one had any idea, let alone had seen the problem. It's not in the faq (to my knowledge).

Have you tried software mode? My nephew had a nearly identical problem happen, although it was on a fairly old computer, but the symptoms sound the same. I think you'll need to mess with the .cfg files to get it running in software mode, and it probably won't be stable, but it might be worth a try.

@Ultraviolet:
No, really. I've never seen such a system run the game. What DX/drivers are you using?
WinXP SP1, DX (latest according to Windows Update, can't recall which that is offhand :P), nVidia driver version is 66.93 (latest for XP). I was getting those rendering order problems I talked about in that Game XP thread ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92366) -- you were there) until I ran Game XP on it. Now I'm getting internet connection issues on other games instead. :P

I usually just watch around the forum in the hope that someone with the same problem will turn up.
One did, once... His fix didn't help me.
Software mode... Do you mean the safe texture manager or something?
Drat on 5/1/2005 at 07:00
No, software mode as in not using 3d hardware.
TheNightTerror on 5/1/2005 at 07:31
With Thief Gold, I remember all you had to do was change it from hardware to software mode from the video menu, but I don't think it's that easy with SS2. One of the .cfg files should have a line that reads something like game_hardware_mode. If it's set to 1, change it to 0, see if anything changes. Just make a backup of that file in case my directions are a recipe for disaster. ;)

Can't break what's already toast... Sounds interesting, I'll try it!
I did try turning off my hardware acceleration in the system setting (of Windows, as opposed to SS2). The game didn't start on the basis that my card was not compatible.

Deck 6, you say? Isn't that e-mail from Delacroix, telling you to meet in Cargo Bay A? If that's what you mean, then there's a reason for it. Delacroix was abandoned by SHODAN and killed by some of the Von Braun's horrors. Her corpse is on the floor in the middle of the cargo bay, and you can pick up Delacroix's last log from it.
I'm not really sure what the advantages of going in there are, though, because SHODAN warns you beforehand not to go in. When you go in and come back out, SHODAN deducts some modules from you and scolds you for not following instructions.

And you certainly didn't have to explain it
before he got there.

He already went there. Didn't you see it in his post?

I think what he meant was that he went to Engineering.
:sly:
I dont remember if i was refering that I went enginering bay or not. But i think if i went to correct room and find the log, i would have understand the reason.
Anyway, thx for all the anwser. I finished game twice now, but never havent started SS1.
Im looking for a DeusEx 'though :)
