Concerning the room I was talking about before, the doorway is blocked by a bed (or chair). The door itself is never closed.
It's somewhere on deck 4, in the dorm area (I guess near where you find the log about the assasins).

Hmmm. Near where the spider trap is? Not the one by the sim units, I'll try to give directions. When you arrive on Ops deck via the elevator, you can head through some sliding doors to where the first red cyborg assassin is. If you head down the hallway he didn't go through, eventually you'll reach grav shafts leading down to some crew quarters.
I think the spider trap room is in one of the rooms down the first grav shafts. If you investigate the doors, you'll find a hallway leading to a room with a piano in it, with two locked doors on either side of the hall. When you enter the piano room, the doors open behind you to reveal a nice, big, fat, juicy spider who proceeds to try to nibble on your ass.

Personally, I think it would be pretty cool to find an area of the ship where Xerxes is still playing Elvis songs, 5 second clips back to back on loop, or maybe have an accidental side effect of a hack that the player does re-trigger that problem.
As it is, the game has so few "easter eggs." Why not make room for more?
THAT bit I stand behind completely. :thumb:

I can see it now... You reach the main security interface.
1) Turn of cameras
2) Disable alarms
3) Recall assualt mechs
4) Play Elvis songs
And then perhaps a little note in the corner saying 'wassface was here' where wassface isthat guy who recruited the red assasins... Can't remember his name.
That area sounds fairly right, TNT, but I can't pin-point it - I'm working by memory, and if I wana play SS2 again then I need to transplant a motherboard. It simply won't run on a AMD/Nvidia system (and I've tried a lot of those systems...).
I'm surprised no one remembers it.

If you'll wait a moment I'll get a screenie for you of the place I'm remembering, you can tell me if it's right or not. :)
Edit: All righty, here it is:

Edit 2: YOWZA! Uno momento, that picture's file size is fatter than a rumbler's ass!
Edit 3: Okay, it's back online now. :p

*cough* AMD/nVidia system here *cough* Athlon XP 2400+, 256MB PC133, nVidia GF 4000MX. Running fine.

You may or may not want to consider turning that into a hyperlink, if the filesize is too large...
*bb can't be bothered to check*
In that area, unless there's another one just like it. Check those rooms, and look for a doorway you can't go through. It's open, just blocked with stuff.
TheNightTerror on 4/1/2005 at 07:59
The file size was well over 200 kb but I chopped it down to 54. :p That's the only place like it I can think of, so it could very well be there, then. :)
Bomb Bloke on 4/1/2005 at 08:13
Well, that must be it then.
@Ultraviolet:
No, really. I've never seen such a system run the game. What DX/drivers are you using?
Qaladar on 4/1/2005 at 08:48
Runs just fine on my athlon 2100 and GeForce Ti 4400.
Never had a bit of trouble with SS2.
DirectX 9.0b at the moment though it ran just fine with DX 8 and 7 as well (I upgraded along with changing system requirements for Everquest, but same video card and never had trouble with SS2).
*Edit*
Forgot to add running the latest drivers (6693). Although being a somewhat religious video card driver I think its fair to say I have used every single driver version nVidia has released since I bought the card. Had problems with none of them.
