Broadly speaking Thief13x, we have a unique one-time choice between a climate that is conducive to feeding 6billion+ people and further development of human civilisation or one that is hostile to the above. Sure there's gonna be regulation (especially infrastructure, building regulations and the like) and some upheaval and possibly even a bit of squabbling, but nothing like the utter and irreversible collapse if we don't
Sweating in fear? Don't - just get your head around the idea that a 21st century lifestyle is one that aspires to be lighter, smarter, healthier and rather more free than we got used to in the 20th century.
It certainly isn't doom and gloom. Gas (the gassy stuff, not the oily stuff) can have the CO2 sequestered both as it is taken out the ground (pumping the CO2 back from whence it came flushes out more gas that would otherwise be unobtainable) and as it is burnt in power stations. We have an endless supply of cheap energy available in renewables; though hurdles to cross when it comes to storing and distributing said energy (electricity supply needs to be matched to demand, otherwise the lights go out or fuses blow - then the lights go out) - but nothing that isn't an extension of the kind of operation already used to store and distribute energy ready for peak periods of demand - pump water uphill during periods of quiet demand, hold it, then release it to generate a surge when demand is expected to be.
New opportunities will become available: Local electricity networks linking a street or neighbourhood of solar panels, capturing Geothermal energy to warm a house requires pumping water around your garden at a depth of only 1.5m where the temperature is constantly 12 dgrees C all year round. New (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_house) Passive Houses can be built so thermally efficient that they require no heating or cooling at all. And we have a bunch of timeless technologies - like using our arms and legs to do things and get about - and opportunities to (
http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/portland-celebrating-americas-most-livable-city/) redesign towns and cities to make the more liveable rather than simply conduits for cars.
Frankly it's all rather exciting - we get to make some wacky hi-tech/low-tech sci-fi utopia - (
http://www.calfeedesign.com/bamboo.htm) bamboo bicycles, pedestrians and rickshaws with wi-fi access mixing it with (
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/si/video/more_3-wrapper.html) electric cars on the streets of New York; cheer the fuck up you miserable sod.

The only thing more arrogant then that, I suppose is thinking that six billion people can live as they wish, with no environmental consequences.
Have you ever considered how much energy and resources a Western human being consumes, compared to the bears or cattle or whatever?
The rock and water won't go anywhere. It'll just become a far harsher environment.

I always love hearing the true arrogance hidden in the idea that we, humans, must
save the planet because we're such a big threat to a giant ball of rock and water that has been around for billions of years
Besides, nature tries to kill us all the time
Nature is merely reacting to our interactions with it and we've come a long way in terms of interactions from the club and animal fur days of the last Ice Age.

So if you were a pilgrim you would be happy living in England without global warming than America with the possibility of citizens who will eventually care enough to change global warming when it
actually becomes an issue? get the fuck out of my country
Read this back to yourself. No wait. Go get your roommate or a random stranger and let them read it and then ask them to tell you what's wrong with it. Because honestly, I don't think we can do it here due to to possibly necessity for hand gestures, facial expressions, and several semesters of science tutoring in the trailer class.

didn't anyone see The Day After Tomorrow? We don't need to worry about global warming until Randy Quaid tells us to.
Koki on 6/12/2007 at 12:54
No one should ever watch that movie.
Oh, and global warming? Well shit, I thought that we crossed "The last line" three years ago. But in this case, call me in seven years
