But aren't most tabs just someone's interpretation of how to play a song, not neccessarily even the correct way? Ah well, guess I'll be getting mine from some swedish site in the near future. Oh and STD, do you even know what tablature is?
Paz on 18/12/2005 at 00:35
If this is only an issue for accurate tabs, the internet is surely in no immediate danger.

Of course I do you muppet. It's idiot-friendly musical scoring that tells people who are too dumb or too lazy to learn proper musical notation where to put their fingers.

That's harsh - you have to be more than proficient at guitar to sightread.

It's also a huge help if you're trying to learn songs on the fly to play requests or some such and can't be bothered to memorize 5,000 songs. If those sites go away it's going to have a prounounced impact on bands that use the web to grab songs on the go during a job.

Also, why aren't artists getting jaeld for covers? Wether you distribude the tabs in a text format or in an audio form doesn't make much difference, does it? Well except that people are making profit from covers.
Most clubs/pubs pay a montly fee to BMI or ASCAP to cover themselves for copyrighted material played on the jukebox, by the DJ, or by live bands, or they're paying a copyright fee that's added into their monthly charge for X radio or whatever they use.
Once again, copyright enforcers are invited to bite my fucking crack. Opportunistic, suit and tie wearing, lazy ass-can't get a real job, leech mother fuckers.

Just when you try to pull yourself together and try to stop this life of piracy, something like this comes along. And then you say, tot, just tot, I will pirate twice as much as I did, I will really put my fucking heart into it.

Then the internet must be an idiot-friendly way that lets people talk to other people because they're too dumb and/or lazy to do it in person?

Let's see.
Idiot-Friendly - It's getting there, if it's not already. Basically all the Average Joe has to do is call up an ISP, wait for them to install it, and be careful not to spill fucking cherry limeade on the modem once it arrives.
People Talk to People - check.
Dumb/Lazy - mostly lazy people who don't want to leave their houses, so check.
I realize you posted that in jest, but I think that it's a fair observation. It's not all the internet is, of course, but people do use it for that purpose.

Yeah, was a pretty bad comparison I can admit...
What I meant to get across was that just because a task (reading music) can be made simpler, doesn't mean the people choosing the simpler method are dumb or lazy. Like a calculator for instance. Surely users must be lazy and/or dumb, as someone couldn't be bothered to learn how to get sin/cos/tan/pi values without it. knowwhatamsayin?

Except that calculators give, in most cases (assume a proper calculator), the same answers a human would give.
TABs do not convey nearly as much information as a piece of sheet music, nor as accurately.
It's like painting by numbers. Sure, you can make a pretty good picture, but the real artists would start from scratch.
