I'm on my nth trip through Morrowind and I was trying to join as may guilds as possible. Does anyone know of a list of all of them? Currently I'm Master of
Great House Redoran
Thieves Guild
Temple
Imperial Cult
Fighters Guild
Imperial Legion
Mages Guild
I know you can't master the Blades or the Ashlanders and you can only join one great house (except for some bug, what's that btw?), but which ones have I missed? There's the Assassins Guild, but I didn't want to join that because I didn't fancy killing innocents (robbing them yes, killing no ;) )
Oh, and how do you start the Twin Lamps quests? I've freed enough slaves for them to have mentioned the password, but who do I talk to now?
Thanks in advance.
(I did a search, but couldn't find a list of guilds, so don't shoot me if I missed it :erm: )

How do you know they're innocent?
The only joinable factions you've missed there are the 3 vampire clans (as far as I can know each character of yours can only ever be a member of a single clan, like the Great houses). There is also the East Empire company, but you can only join them in Bloodmoon.

Ah yes, forgot them. I've got both add-ons so I'll do them after I've polished off Dagoth Ur.
As for the Assassins/Vampires, I'm trying to play my character along a chaotic/good alignment. Ok, the Thieves Guild quests are questionable, but they gave me access to the 'Robin Hood' quests from Gentleman Jim. ;)
Are you saying that the Assassins Guild only go after evil/criminal types? If so I might join...

Yes. They are an honor-bound ancient guild that abides by a pretty strict set of rules. Their direct competition / splinter group, the Dark Brotherhood, hold no such code of honor, and will pretty much kill anyone if the price is right. But the Morag Tong are oddly noble, for a group of contract killers.
And, if you progress through their ranks, you'll notice that every target you're assigned is pretty nasty.
The exceptions to this rule are the "Easter Egg" assassinations which are only obtainable after you kill Dagoth Ur, and involve some key NPCs you might have encountered earlier in the game. They include people like Larrius Varo of Buckmouth Fort, who was a pretty good guy, and was only interested in defeating the Camonna Tong and making people safe. (

Excellent, I can join and murder people with a clear conscience :cheeky:
The Twin Lamps isn't a guild is it, just a few quests, right?
Mucho gracias Zaphod :D

Correct. The Twin Lamps are not "joinable" in the main game. There are several popular joinable Twin Lamps fan-made mods, the names of which I can't remember.

Also, there are plenty of fan-made mods adding new joinable factions (or expanding on existing factions) so check them out.
Although I must admit that I've never understood people who join every faction in the game. Doesn't it seem a bit strange to introduce yourself "I am the Archmaster of House Redoran and a Patriarch of the Temple and the Archmage of the Mages Guild and the Master Thief of the Thieves' Guild.. etc."
I suppose Morrowind is all about not restricting choices and player expression. Nevermind.

It would be a rather cumbersome title, wouldn't it? :cheeky:
I'm just trying to do as many quests and find as many unique artifacts as possible, and joining all the guilds seems the best way to do it.

Agreed. If the fun of the game comes from doing quests and exploring, only the most ardent role-player wouldn't try and unlock as many quests as possible.
Plus, and I know I've said this before, but for my money, there's great comedy value in being the top dog in two diametrically opposed factions who hate each other, like House Telvanni and the Mages Guild, or the Imperial Cult and the Temple, etc.
Chimpy Chompy on 27/1/2004 at 20:39
It does seem kind of odd, for example, a scenario where the Grandmaster of Telvanni wonders up to Fighters Guild HQ to be a lowly grunt, or goes on flower-picking duty for some Imperial Cult official.
In a future game Elder Scrolls game, I'd perhaps like some kind of faction system where the more you dedicate yoruself to one group, the less your options with any others (a bit like how signing up for missions in Sacrifice worked). In the end you would only ever be able to reach the top of a couple of groups in one game, and not ones that rabidly hate each other, and see some real consequences of your leadership.
