That one annoyed the hell out of me too. I think the problem is that if you get too close, Smoke's firing up at a steep and angle the targets are partially obstructed. So try moving away a bit to give him a clearer view.
the ones i had more trouble with was the police chase! shooting inside the car and all, specially with the ps2 controller!
there was a similar one, with the russians. that was annoying too.

Those SA missions were pretty easy for me. I had a bit of trouble (read 3+ reloads) on one of the robbery missions w/Queen Bitch.

I damn near pulled an all-nighter last night without even realizing it, this game is that good.
Only one issue really worth griping about so far: Loading of interiors/exteriors is strange sometimes. Cars and people seem to reset during mission transitions on occasion, resulting in a 'ghost town' until you turn a corner, not to mention losing whatever vehicle you left parked in the given sector.
Sometimes this happens in interiors as well, where you can hear patrons talking but can't see them after a brief appearance when you first enter. I watched a worker mopping the diner floor and several patrons simply blink out of existence.
These have been rare, but frustrating occurrences.

So cars disappearing remains one of the biggest frustrations of GTA.

Me too. My only console is the last gen XBOX, and I have no plans to rectify that.

GTA IV is on the front page of CNN right now. And, surprisingly, the article has nothing to do with puritanical backlash.

This just in: GTA4 is pretty damn amazing. I gotta get back to playing it in a minute so I'll just make a checklist of things of note concerning the gameplay:
* the driving is hella loose. It feels more like Driver than the earlier GTA games. Spin-outs happen easily if you're careless. Becoming a master wheelsman will take more practice than in earlier games.
* the on foot action is improved. You can lean against walls to take cover/shoot around corners. It feels like Rockstar learned a lot from making The Warriors because roof-top chases and such are more fun now. The mantling and jumping over fence animations are really nice. You can climb ladders too. You can swim, but you can't dive. It also feels like R* have learned a few things from Saint's Row.
* more interaction with the environments. More minigames, like bowling, darts, minigolf(I think). Also, there's a TV in your room where you can chill out and watch reality-shows, cartoons(looks like they were made by a decent Flash-animator), commercials, etc.
* it seems to be less linear than earlier GTA games. I'm about 10 missions in and so far I've already had the choice of either killing or saving one character. Dunno if it'll have an impact on how the story unfolds.
* I really dig the extent of detail R* have put into the Russian neighbourhood which is your stomping grounds for the beginning of the game. There are Russian businesses, clothes-stores, even a Russian radio-channel which plays only Russian songs.
* Niko Bellic is a wonderfull main character.
As for the story I will only say that it starts of slower than in the other games, only after a few missions does the plight of the main character becomes clear.
Is anyone playing the multiplayer btw? How is it? I'm seriously considering getting a XBL Gold account if it's good.
