Why are people wanking over the multiplayer when it seems just the same as gta1 or 2 multiplayer? Didn't rockstar say they were only going to add multiplayer when it adds something noticeably different and special? I dunno all of the facts on it but from what I've heard it's just your average gta multiplayer yet people are still like "the multiplayer is amazing :S" That's the kind of world of hype we live in.
Keep in mind how long the average fanboy/reviewer has a memory for.
In this case, it means that the multiplayer is new and different compared to anything released within the past 3 months.
That said, I'm probably going to be picking this up at Midnight release, as due to travel reasons I'm going to be near the game store at midnight anyway. It has less to do with the hype, than the fact that I've been itching for a well-made action (NOT FPS) game for awhile now anyway.

I feel kind of dumb for wanting the game even more after seeing that awesome gif. But I still want it!! And bad.

I have a love/hate relationship with GTA3/VC/SA (mostly a hate relationship with the last two, but that's more the setting than anything - plus I prefer the silent protaganist). That said, GTA4 looks ridiculously awesome. Based on the videos I've seen so far, it appears they've pretty much overhauled the entire game and refined most of the mechanics that I hated.

Also, there is ridiculously explicit sex scenes in this as standard (handjobs, blowjobs etc). I'm still torn over whether it's an effective FUCK YOU to the industry or it's really hurting themselves.

Wow that euphoria technology is really impressive.
About the multiplayer, it might not be revolutionnary but so far it seems like the best of its kind. When you look at it the only other game to feature a multiplayer mode like this (that is with "next gen" graphics, an open city to explore, pedestrians and traffic) was crackdown and that was limited to two players. I'm not sure how the multiplayer mode in saint's row worked but I'm sure it was just limited to some small maps. MTA and other multiplayer mods on pc pretty much suck, there are huge empty maps and nothing to do in them and it's all buggy and populated by 12 yo kids. I'm sure that will be the case in GTA IV too but at least you'll be able to play with your friends.

Also: Are you serious Scots? Wow. If so I'm really not sure how good or bad this is. It's either very, very bad, or very, very good.
Renault on 28/4/2008 at 18:16
Wow, Thompson offers continuing proof that he is just a wacko. :weird:
The biggest piece of misinformation out there about any of the GTA games is that "violence is aimed at Police officers" or "the game rewards you for killing cops." AFAIK, this has never been the case, and in fact, the opposite is true. I don't know why, but this always irks me, and I've never, ever heard the GTA folks publicly dispute it.
