They were ridiculously hard there too, I just wasn't held up by having to fly one. That said, I haven't completed VC.
Seriously, play Just Cause 2, play SR3 and then tell my why GTA aviation gets on people's nerves. I play GTA games for arcade fun, not to learn how to handle aircraft.
Except I wouldn't know how to fly a chopper just from playing GTA. Left thumbstick handles pitch and roll, right thumbstick handles yaw. Don't jam on the left thumbstick and you won't nose-down into the drink. What's the big deal?
(Admittedly what I'm hearing about GTAV is they included turbulence, which is a new wrinkle.)

Its a case of theory not accurately describing the specifics.
Yes, that's what the controls do. Yes the controls are simple. Now try flying though a narrow gap in a suspension bridge while the entire aircraft is bucking in random directions and the direction of the nose is oscillating as much as 45 degrees back and forth.

In GTA V it's left thumbstick to pitch and roll, L1 and R1 to yaw, L1 to descend, R2 to ascend. Yeah, it's hard but it's okay. The only airplane I've flown has the same controls (accelerate/brake instead of up/down but I suspect this will be different for jets. Right thumbstick is camera.
The turbulence feels natural to me and it's no big deal so far.

*UPDATE*
Okay, so I did go back and made for all gold medals on the previous flying lessons... and, to my surprise, it seems the buffeting effect from the turbulence has decreased quite a bit making the controls much more manageable. I still suck time-wise, but at least I can get around the course in time.
So, whether it's valid or not, or just my imagination, I'd say go for the gold, folks, or else the helicopter lessons might be complete hell.

Is anyone experiencing frame rate/stuttering issues on the 360? From some googling it seems like quite a few are having similar issues, its just annoying enough to kinda ruin the immersion. I am using a 50 inch led/lcd, wondering if that itself is the issue, getting some serious stuttering at high speeds when lots of objects on the screen.

Did you install both disks onto the hard drive, Piglick? If so, it might have something to do with the "installing both disks on the hard drive" problem. Rockstar put out a statement recently advising people to NOT install both disks, only the mandatory first disk, due to poor video performance. But, IGN (I think) came up with a work-around if you do want to speed things up through a "full install" by installing the second disk onto a flash drive--just not the hard drive.
Also, I had read that older (pre-2008, I think) Xbox units were having some issues, but I cannot remember what exactly (freezing up sounds right).
For me, I'm running off the disk on a newer machine and don't have any problems at all.

Yeh I am aware of the play disc problem, havent installed it. My xbox is a 2011 model, so its pretty new. What screen are you using Queue? I have just purchased a new tv, so I am hoping it isnt that.
A good example would be sitting next to a highway watching cars go past, you can see the stutter very clearly, the cars arent smooth at all its like a very fast slideshow. Pretty annoyed really as I bought the new tv pretty much to play GTA5 on (plus my old one was dying). The game looks great, no issues there, its just driving around when lots of other vehicles results in some frustrating stuttering.

It's a current model Sanyo 42" LCD. Not a big as yours, but....
Brainstorming a couple other ideas, even though you probably already know them:
- "Game Mode" not turned on in the TV's settings? Apparently this can cause frame rate problems in larger screens. I've got "Game Mode" on and "Native" set for the picture size.
- Bad or cheap HDMI cable? This drove me nuts when I first started using the HDMI ports on my TV. The fucking things wouldn't fit snugly enough causing stuttering, lags, and intermittent complete video drop out.

There is a game mode setting, will try that see what happens. The hdmi cable is just the standard xbox one, so am assuming that is decent quality.

Hope the Game Mode takes care of it.
I would assume so, on the cable. But it seems that for the most part, the damned things are "touchy" at best.... My Xbox only came with component cables, so I had to buy the HDMI cable separately, and made the unfortunate mistake of just grabbing whatever Walmart had. But, after using a good HDMI, I'll never use component cables. The picture is fantastic.
