You didn't have to manage your weight or eat in SA. You
could, if you wanted to.
I didn't like how people kept calling me in GTA4 either, but you could always just turn your phone off y'know.
For GTA5 I hope they stick to the formulas set by VC&SA. Keep the tech from GTA4 and just add more stuff and make it bigger.

For me, Vice City is also yet to be bettered.
Miami. Ridiculous trousers. Yellow Lambo. 99 Red Balloons. Massive amounts of fun.
Done.

Agreed 100% with this. GTA SA was in my opinion the best in the series, due to the HUGE amount of things you can do, rpg elements, excellent music and variance in the types of missions available. GTA IV incomparison was a MASSIVE let down. Sure the new additions of the television shows and ingame GTA internet + the strip joints were absolutely awesome, but they removed the vast majority of what was good from the games before it.
So bring back the good stuff, get rid of the annoying phone calls, make the game world as large or larger than that of SA and make the series fun to play and replayable again, cause GTA IV was not.
I was writing out my post, but quoting you 3 was pretty much exactly what it said. So, yeah, what they said.

Yeah, chalk me up as a big fan of VC. I do think its success is due to the mechanics of the world being well established by the excellent GTA3 and then just looking to turn that into as cool and fun an experience as they could by dialling up the 80s aesthetic and mood with music etc. Of course, Ray Liotta sealed the deal.
On that note, GTA3 is probably the last GTA game that I enjoyed for the crime story side of it, and I probably got more immersed in that smaller, more manageable sandbox world than in any of the others (including VC because it was such a broad rehash of Scarface that I didn't pay as much attention to the minor goings-on).
Since VC the series has been a run of diminishing returns for me. I found San Andreas utterly boring, the story and the added gameplay mechanics left me cold. GTA4 was an amazing engine for a GTA game but lacked pretty much everything else. The story, the music, the mission design, the art, yawn. Impressively detailed, but yawn inducing nonetheless.
I'd love to see them take the GTA4 engine and just so something really idealized and fun with it, but I don't think that's where they are going with this series anymore.

If you've become disheartened with GTA, there's other options on the market that might have what you want.

What killed murder sprees dead for me in GTA4 that it was very difficult to lose the relentlessness police at higher star ratings. Seriously, fuck the wanted circle to hell.
I actually thought the wanted circle was a massive improvement over the previous star system. It just made more sense, and made for more dynamic police escapes, than just trying to book it to one of several "safe zones" on the map. GTA 4's chases would force me to do things like hijacking choppers, utilizing stunt jumps, hiding in the subways, and jumping off bridges in order to escape more intense police chases. Whereas GTA 4's reliance on line of sight meant that such manuevers where well rewarded (and often necessary to avoid having the circle reset), the best strategy in previous games was always to beeline it to a Sprayer by the most direct route possible.
