In spite of a lot of interesting spam info, I am still pretty blank about the group membership thing. Am I to assume that group membership is a form of punishment or restriction for bad posters?
Or maybe my understanding of english is not by far as good as I thought it was...Troubling

No.
Group membership is a generic feature of the vBulletin software. We don't have any groups (nor a need for them), so we don't use it.

No, you have many groups. That is, non-public usergroups ;)
* Guests / Not logged in
* Needs email validation
* Registered users
* Moderators
* Super Moderators
* Administrators
And probably a banned usergroup plus additional usergroups for private forums.
However, they don't have any public usergroups which is a usergroup that everyone can apply for access to from their user cp.

I'll have the 'one tree hill', free video game console, if you buy all this crap totalling 500 dollars, so thats a console that cost you 500 dollars plus lots of free crap.
you could have a web spider group, and stick them all in that.
