All drama and political intrigue aside, is it a fun game?
Very much, if you liked Wizardry VI/VII, or other fiddly, hard 1990s CRPGs.

I stumbled upon this in my Steam discovery queue. Oh lordy, the user reviews are savage!

i needed to learn some hocus pocus to get this game to work on my laptop. I got half of my problems solved from a helpful gent on the forum but nobody wanted to give me the time of day on my second half of my problem. I waited over a week with no answer so i got a refund. Im no good with this scienceolegy stuff.

Some of the "Recommended!" reviews are so negative I really think Steam needs to rethink its "Recommended/Not Recommended" system.

Somehow, I'm not surprised that the guy who spent 20 odd years programming The Ultimate Oldschool RPG while living in a fallout shelter has suddenly gone overly possessive, and is now banning people who dare have the temerity to report bugs in his Perfect Game.
It's kind of a shame, really. From what I'm reading, if it had spent a decent amount of time in beta testing, and the author's ego didn't keep getting in the way, it'd apparently be a good game.

I can't believe the guy wants $40 for this POS.

It is the greatest game of its style made since the original Wizardry VII (1992). It has a target audience of, well, maybe four hundred people, but for them, it truly lives up to its reputation. It is a game with depth, wit, and genuine charm. It is a flawed masterpiece in an age of perfectly polished tedium.
Well worth the brouzouf.
