Not sure who amongst us reads comics but I've been blasting through both Green Lantern and GL: Corps recently at the urging at a couple of "more geeky" friends because the Geoff Jones Trilogy third part of Blackest Night starts soon.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else here reads GL or any other comics - and if so what do you think of Ryan Reynolds being cast as Hal Jordan in the 2011 movie?

Agreed, and that is an awesome trailer.
Still, I've always imagined Hal Jordan as having a comedy side; and Reynolds is due to make the leap into a big, popular blockbuster so I wish him well.
The whole Green Lantern thing is really kicking into overdrive - there was an article in the London Metro about it yesterday!

Of the names that were being tossed around in credible casting rumours, I liked Bradley Cooper the best. I like Reynolds well enough, but he's kind of the kiss of death for comic book movies.
I really wish that they'd gone full on Silver Age with it, set it in the late 50s early 60s and cast Jon Hamm. Do the whole thing like a classic adventure serial.

I, for one, wish they went back to the Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams-era Green Lantern. Those were some hard-hitting, racy, and timely stories/storylines. Drugs, pimps, all kinds of shit. Absolute groundbreaking material, and IMO the high point of Green Lantern (and Green Arrow for that matter) history.

I recall that glslvrfan (who doesn't post much these days) said his nick means Green Lantern Silver fan. I remember that because before that I always thought it meant he was a big GayleSaver fan for some reason, even thoug the spelling isn't right for that.

Oh thank God I'm not the only poor bastard who thought that. :o
Also why does it seem that, at least among non-geeky comic book fans ("used to read comics as a kid, but not since then" kinda thing) black guys nearly always rate Green Lantern at the top of the list and white guys hardly even remember Green Lantern at all? In my experience, at any rate.

Thirded on the GayleSaver fan nickname!
And, GBM, wasn't Green Lantern a black guy for a while? That could be part of it.

Most black guys I know who read comics tend to prefer Marvel.
Fuck if I know why.
