Hello everyone. I just joined the forum a few minutes ago, although I have been browsing here for a couple of days. This seems like a really intelligent, nice place to spend time at, so I thought I would join up.
At 240AM today, I beat Deus Ex.
I got it a few months after its release, messed around with it, and was promptly too frustrated with the diffifculty. I never got any further than the hidden airfield before. I used to think that DX universe was one of the coolest things ever. It had tones of dystopian depth from what I had seen. I tried writing some dx-inspired stories, but they too faded out.
Times changed. I went from loving CS at around beta 4 or so, to hating it by 1.3. I found a girlfriend that I hope to marry someday, and headed off to college. Here I am, the second semester of freshman year. Wow.
After beating most of my ps2 games, I remembered DX. I have been reading up on dystopia, and I desperately want to get some Gibson books, but I dont have any green, so that will wait.
Anyways, one of my friends got the game from somewere. He offered to burn it for me, and since I already owned it(but it was at my house), I took the offer. I was amazed. I played it medium difficulty, and spent all week playing it. It was easily the best game I have ever played. The level that you can make your avatar YOU is just awesome.
I named my Douglas Wade (My middle name, preceded by my first name), and it was really cool picking everything. Like the weapon mods, and the skills and AUGs. It was the most immersive game I have ever played. EVER. The difficulty of taking an assualt approach mixed with stealthyness was pretty fun. It certainly wasnt as hard as doing that no lives lost thing that a lot of people talk about, but it was the most practical thing to do. I really felt like a badass when I used the killphrases for some reason.
The Helios ending is the best I have seen in a long time. Sure, the cinematics for all of them could I have been a lot longer and more indepth, like the intro- but it was still really cool merging with the AI.
The universe this game is set in is awesome. Its all so believable to have happened in the future, given the current state of tech and stuff. The Illuminati/MJ12 stuff is pretty scary, and believable. Them making the virus, and the cure both is genius. The clones were pretty neat, and the whole idea of bio-engineered people was well-handled. The MiBs were pretty awesome. Seeing Alex Denton growing in a vat was neat too. Its really great.
Anyways, I just wanted to say how much I love with this game.
