That's a bit beyond my capability - I just plug the thing into my PC and expect it to work :D Underclocking seems to have solved the problems (no crashes over the past few days), so BIG thanks everyone! I will buy a nice shiny replacement card sometime in the new year when they've been reduced a lot (those GX275's look quite nice and just about in my price range)
what are the underclock values..for the core and mem.

400 and 600x2=1200

hmm your loosing loadsof performance, your core is running 150Mhz under stock. How did the search go for the receipt? have you contacted the manufacturer as yoiu may be able to get if fixed by them..

I found the receipt from Novatech, it was bought in October 2006, so is 34 months old. Palit say on their website to contact the retailer for RMA's, but on their US returns page they say they only will accept RMAs up to 24 months old. So it looks like I can't return it.
The 2 main games I play seem happy enough with it underclocked. You're right though, it is underclocked by quite a bit, this was just a first attempt to see if it would run. I will try moving it back towards the nominal speeds to see if I can get it to run faster.

you really, really need to see if the thermal paste between the heat sink and gpu is intact - get a mate to check if dont feel comfortable doing it. Btw where in the Uk are you..?

London. I do have some spare Arctic Silver 5 left over from the PC build, (I'm happy enough putting computer bits together, but I've never taken the fan off a graphics card, is it straightforward?), so presumably I can use that as the thermal paste?

Thanks for the offer! I will have a look on the web on Monday to see how it's done. If I can't follow it, I may take you up on your offer.
