Hello,
During vanilla GOTY edition installation I was asked to overwrite some files (this is on a clean system, the game has never been installed before). Is this normal? It doesn't make sense for an installer to overwrite files it created itself.

I am probably way off base here but some game of the year games install the game and then patch it which requires overwriting files. Could this be the case? If it's not patching then no it shouldn't overwrite as far as I know. I hope someone else can help clear this up.:angel::)

I have never seen this message before and I have installed Deus Ex many times. First I bought the boxed game of the year for PC, then I bought the superior PS2 version, and then when it went on sale on steam I bought it there too.

I always get asked to overwrite files when installing the editor package that comes with the GOTY game: conedit seems to install core system-esque files and then demand you allow it to overwrite them because they're out of date, which is bizarre, but I've never had any problems with saying 'yes'.
Mind you, not sure i've had any problems saying 'no', either.
Bear in mind GOTY editions can contain 'game plus patch', and install them sequentially like Stingm says, and also (in my experience) GOTY versions are not uniform: I have..uh..*checks*...four GOTY copies of DX, and I know at least one of them is more 'OMG OVERWRITE prompty' than the others. They all look the damn same, though.
