Apparently I have 16 invites. If anybody hasn't gotten one yet, PM me.

I signed up awhile back but have not played around with it yet and I don't have any invites I don't think.

It was. But the article does state that they'll use the technology in future projects, so maybe we'll see some products come out with similar Wave functions built in.

Is this a good time to talk about Google's rumored devil-pact with Verizon?

I was excited about Wave in the beginning. Then I tried to use it for a few things, like embedding waves in websites, which was quite complicated. And then it was clunky to use. Even for a net person like me it often wasn't clear how what where rolled.
But one article I read a few months ago really hit the nail on the head, saying that the biggest problem with Wave was that it doesn't solve a problem for most users. (Unlike for example Gmail with its threaded conversations, lots of storage space, etc.) And that's true I guess. Wave did some impressive things but remained a strange and useless toy in the end.

Agreed. I thought it was fun to play with but I could never find a practical use for it.

I do think there is room for a "replacement" to email, but to me the problem with Google Wave was just that - it was Google® Wave™. Could you imagine if email had been invented as Microsoft® E-Mail™ ?
I would like to see some sort of open system that replaces and consolidates email, social networking, etc, but it would have to be a basic, unbranded platform like e-mail or the web. In particular I do think there is a large gap waiting to be filled by a platform for social networking that is not beholden to corporate interests.

I just don't think there is really a role for it. Its like having a fast email conference call and you might as well have a phone call or an email conversation. Plus it was confusing as hell to use when it really didn't need to be. There is no reason they couldn't integrate the dynamic elements with gmail.

That'd be a nice dreamworld, Shakey!
