I'm on my late mother in laws pc. Had it about 6 months. I can't get the damn thing to go to Google home page. Been like this since she passed. I can go just about anywhere else on the net. I tried Humoron, nothingtoxic, and a few torrent sites thinking there was a porn filter or something crazy but it goes there fine.
Running XP with SP3. I uninstalled AVG8 paid and Suze Ormons identity theft kit thinking one of those had a filter. Im stuck. Any suggestions?

Can you ping google? Just open up a command line and type "ping google.com". The address mine returns is 209.85.229.147, so you could try pinging that. If that works, try typing that address into the web browser's address field.

What if you directly try the IP instead of the domain name?
for instance:
(
http://74.125.77.147/)
If that does open Google, it might be that google has a specific entry in your local hosts file
("C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" or something similar). See if that exists and if so, remove its line from the file.

Open the browser tools and check that she did not put it in the restricted sites. You can also add it to the admitted sites in the security tab.
