This is not only related with ttlg. I just saw a google ad at the top which said "system shock 2 downloads" and after clicking I arrived at this (
http://www.shops-channel.com/c/11-stock/c001/stock.htm) page:confused:
With almost everyone saying google=no evil, I'm confused how google would let such tricks? Also I always see non-relevant google ads here...just curious

Yeah, that does seem a bit offside.
There will usually be a number of irrelevant ads, but Google does try its best to target things specifically -- unfortunately it does this by looking for keywords in the page text, so sometimes it can get a bit odd.
If you see that ad (or other exceptionally suspicious / scammy-looking ones) please retrieve and post as much info as you can about it. That was we can see if we can either block the referrer or take it up with Google.
Or something.
I'm talking a bit out of my bottom at the moment because a) I only have a layman's idea of how this thing works and b) I run AdBlock and consequently haven't seen an ad on the Internet in ages :D

I'm pretty sure, the ads displayed clear blue text link saying "system shock 2 downloads" as I thought who else has a ss2 portal anyway and I clicked it. Obviously the site has got no content, just an obscure e-shop, not even pc games related.
I heard it's mostly meta-tags and page title's name is how google finds out which keywords should be relevant. So the page title "ttlg forums - powered by vbulletin" doesn't help much.
At the moment I see "horse thief" vacation resort site at the top which actually links to the correct site.
Don't know really...internet is full of people claiming to earn $$$$ from adsense:confused:
Really, it would just make me feel good if I knew one of the most "fresh" content sites like ttlg is earning some from ads.

That would make us feel good, too.

It's not so much that Google allows them, it's likely they have not yet been complained about. There are literally billions of adsense adverts out there, and there is no way on earth they can all be pre-approved. They have a lot of auto filtering, for keywords and phrases.
I have added the 'spam' domain to our blocking list, so it should stop showing up in the rotation in a few hours.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind ad banners from TTLG "associated" companies like Arcane or Irrational. There's friendly contact in both directions anyways, and while they have a good target audience here, I'm sure the boards could use some extra pocket money.

There's one up today that's got scam written all over it.
First:
Game Testers Wanted
How to get paid to test new games.
$1.88 Per Month. Must be 18.
And when you click it:
"What If I Could Show You How To Make up to $120 Dollars Per Hour Playing Video Games From Your Home... Would You Be Interested?"
Followed by all the wrong things to say unless you want desperate dumb people.
