Awesome.
My CRT appears to be on its last legs, and is randomly unsuitable for gaming, so I'm looking to replace it. I'd probably have bought another CRT rather than deal with the issues of LCD panels, except that (a) it looks like almost no one makes or sells them any more (which I can understand from a mass-market perspective, but it still came as a huge surprise), and (b) my newest LCD at work has been a major improvement over the others I've seen, which has given me some hope.
I'm willing to splash out a little on a good monitor, as it should outlast pretty much every other component in the system.
Just starting to look. A 22" wide-screen seems the best match for my 19" 4:3 CRT. Thus far I've seen some good reviews of Samsung LCDs.
Unfortunately I've also noticed a brain-dead trend for framing monitors with glossy plastic. What idiot designer decided that light bouncing off the edges of your monitor and into your eyes was a good idea? Stupid crap like that worries me a little.

Black glossy plastic is a trend that many many devices feature at the moment. In Germany it's called "Klavierlack", which roughly translates to "piano finish" or "piano lacquer".
This gives the customer the illusion that he buys a precious item - and many seem to like it. The most idiotic use is on personal navigation assistants in cars, IMHO.
But this shouldn't be a problem for the Thief games, shouldn't it? :sly:

Wow. Yes, that trumps the PC monitor usage.

Ha. Unfortunately I also use my computer with the lights on. Weird, I know :)

I got very little used Compaq S910 19" CRT monitor from my employer and I was stunned how well CRTs still display games and other graphically advanced programs compared to TFTs which I have been using for 2 years now. If you have space you could take secondary monitor as pretty much all graphic cards support at least two monitors these days :thumb:.
