To be fair, these guys work for the same company who thought that getting nude trading cards after you bed women was a high sign of maturity in games.

They probably weren't. If you watched that Chapter 0 trailer that the monk pictures were taken from, you'd see that, well, they think they're funny, and either because of a language barrier or... because of the fact that they're complete nerds and maybe they just don't have the people skills to realize that it just wasn't funny. I'm happy that they're nerds, and I'm happy that they've gotten these games out for us for cheap and that work fine.. so I'm just going to say... okay. You guys made a joke .... nobody got it. Don't do it again and there will be smooth sailing from here on out.
This very much. I just watched their countdown go to zero, and now there's a pic of "GOG.com will be back soon" ...with teddy bears... and a :)
...so, ...yeah.
...waiting.

it's up but still struggling...let's hope it's the mass of customers trying to get Baldur's
Brian The Dog on 23/9/2010 at 12:55
It's up now, but is very slow... Baldur's Gate is indeed available, for $10.
Edit - Oops, beaten by mothra. There's no way I'm entering my buying something when it's timing out like this! Will get stuff in a few days or so. I'm guessing the heavy traffic is paranoid fans downloading all their games to a back-up hard drive :p

At the time I thought that Baldur's Gate was pretty good, but this was after a long dearth of high fantasy RPGs. In comparison to BG2, the first game doesn't hold up very well IMO - it's just so... thin... by comparison. For me, it's the sheer amount of material and detail that makes these games come alive, and the original Baldur's Gate didn't offer all that much detail (IIRC) but lots of dungeon crawls. It's how I imagine Icewind Dale plays.

the relaunch had a relaunch. they have to add servers which means if the site can now handle 4 times the old load, it was just exceeded. let's hope that traffic results in sales :)
at least I can access/redownload my old games now.
Brian The Dog on 23/9/2010 at 15:39
Definitely much quicker now, although I'm still limited to download speeds of 4-5Mb/s, about half what they were before the revamp. Presumably like a lot of people, I'm re-downloading the whole library of my games to a backup hard drive.

You've got to be kidding me. The only thing BG lacks, detail-wise, is the character banters. And dungeon crawls? Much more prominent in BG2 than BG.
