Hey, thanks, it all now works :thumb: The game's so over the top it's great fun.

I've gotten past the part with the steam tunnels where you have to locate/disable the valves to proceed.
Apologies for being a stupid noobie at this, but how do you disable the steam in these tunnels? Do I blow up some controls in the Maintenance room, or is there something I missed that I have to interact with?
Edit2 - Nevermind, I figured it out :)

The latest release is "Enclave" by Starbreeze (of Riddick fame).
Comments, anyone? I usually have at least a vague impression of GOG releases, but this one passed me by completely.
Searching here makes me think it's capable, not probably not spectacular? Opinions mostly seemed to hover around the "okay" to "quite good" range. A few bits of relatively enthusiastic praise, but no real gushing to speak of.

Utterly boring, to be honest. Best thing about the game is the animated menu.

I SO want to like this game, but it simply won't let me. It's tough as nails, to boot.

The consensus on some other forum is that it's terrible, not old, but enjoyable in a terrible way. Not worse than Oblivion, some say, and it takes itself less seriously. Clearly made with unrealistic time constraints. I'm intrigued. Not buying it, though.

It's worth noting that it is the Epic Edition though, so it's likely pre-patched with the (
http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=686&menu=1) numerous fixes and noticeable content additions that have apparently been made since the original release. It being less polished and rushed to release shouldn't be a factor here, I'm guessing.

Pretty much, EvaUnit. It was kinda like the difference between Gothic 3 on launch and Gothic 3 with the Community Patch. I thought it was pretty fun, and will probably replay it after (if) I ever finish Risen. Pretty light system requirements to boot.

Fuck yes.
The deluxe version* of Particle Systems' absolute classic
I-War (a.k.a.
Independence War) is out on GOG for a mere US$5.99.
(

(*) That's the original game, the 3Dfx graphics enhancements (which are working in the GOG version courtesy of some Glide wrapper or other), and the "Defiance" expansion pack.
I won't pretend it's perfect (a few missions can be really frustrating), but despite its flaws, I-War remains one of the pinnacles of the space-sim genre (and indeed of sci-fi gaming in general).
This is a seriously awesome release.
Edit: And in answer to the one big question I was asking myself, they seem to have figured out how to fix the SHIFT-Q bug! This doesn't surprise me too much -- even though it didn't actually affect your progress, I just couldn't imagine them releasing it with that bug in effect. It was known to be an audio issue, so I would guess they managed to throw some kind of wrapper around the offending DLL. Anyhow, with the major compatibility issues sorted by default, I suspect I'm going to have to buy myself a third copy of the game :)
