@biker (and others with LCDs):
just read a negative opinion of someone who just bought an LCD (read all posts of user DRG here: (
http://rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33928525&page=3) ). As you see, he/she complains about massive ghosting and low smoothness compared to CRT. What do you think of it, and is GHOSTING such a big problem for you as well? Reading these posts discouraged me from buying an LCD for the time being.
So, do you suffer from GHOSTING as well (and in which situations the most) and to what extent? Is it unbearable etc?

What the person failed to mention was that its a low end TN based panel, (
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Samsung_T190) this is where the ghosting is coming from.
i dont suffer from ghosting ever and you most people know Im very very picky when it comes to monitors and spent ages finding the right LCD to replace my diamondtron based 19" iiyama pro 450.

so you say that ghosting is mainly TN problem, and not such an issue with IPS/VA?
ps are you going to give HP LP2275 a try (under 7 day return policy where you live) to check out whether it's a worthy 20WGX2 Pro successor/replacement for Thief/dark games in general?

TN panels are gnerally the worst panel type, ok for office work and the occasional games player, but no good for your hardcore gamer or thief player.
ive got some money coming to me in the new years so its very likely I'm gonna try the HP 2275w out - I will of course come back here with the results and comparisons

that would be sweet... looking forward to your results, biker!
ps don't forget about another promising candidate, HP 2475W, while you're at it.

Ill see what i can do - but its gonna be a few weeks of yet.
Its a £400 monitor, which is a bit ouchy, but it is a H-IPS based screen which is the best panel type out there.
here is a review - (

I can't recall ever having ghosting problems with my S-PVA panel either, at least not ones that were visible to the eye.

I'm looking forward to reading your opinions - if I get this i can relegate my 19" to 2nd screen status and retire the 17"CRT that's eating up my desk. :cheeky:
Interesting that you say TNs aren't good for hardcore gaming - some commentary I've read actually says they're preferable with speed\lag being deemed priority issues over colour depth and viewing angles. But maybe that's more an issue if you're into online shooters or something.

What most people complain with LCD is not really ghosting but the movement blur that every LCD has, no matter the technology. Some people don't notice it much, but I just can't stand it. I was hoping for the new 120Hz monitor from Viewsonic to ease a bit the problem, but I just saw its other specs and it's really bad. Does anyone know if there is some progress from OLED?
