@biker:
very good thread idea: hope you'll keep it going in the future when new models/technical developments appear on the market.
IMO good idea/addition would be a list of Thief "certified" LCDs of various screen sizes (like 19''/20''/22''/24'' etc) and formats (normal/wide) from various taffers who own them and use personally to play Thief. (Plus also maybe a blacklist of models to avoid - but it would probably just contain all TNs, but who knows :)).
@Matthew:
re "Swine, I like my S-PVA just fine!" :
which model you do have?
===
I still haven't decided as to what to get as my oooold CRT replacement (with Thief in mind ofc), I was going to get that NEC you biker own (20WGX2 Pro) but it has already disappeared from the market here (may be still listed but n/a), and besides it was 20'' only (while I'm looking at sth @ 22''-24''). That new HP model mentioned, L2275W (22'' PVA) and another one I've found, L2475W (24'' H-IPS) are among the ones I'm looking into ATM, but of course I'm open to other suggestions (of course if it's available locally - don't want to import it etc). Other option is to wait some more for better models to come :)..

@Matthew: thanks for info
@all: btw, does anyone (biker?) know if nec has a replacement new gaming series model for the 20wgx2 pro, seemingly withdrawn from the market lately?

biker:
thanks for info but these 2 above models are also old ones, likely soon to be replaced - they've been out for ages I think.

ChimpyChompy, just found this review of thr HP LP2275W monitor, it has black levels that are close to CRT's...!!!

reaching a incredibly impressive 0.04 cd/m2 at 0% brightness. This is very respectable for any LCD panel, and is owing to the use of S-PVA technology, and the best black depth we have recorded on such technology so far in our reviews.
It has very good viewing angles, good response, good colours, no backlight leakage,
monster black levels and it can be had for as little as £250
I know what my next monitor is then :cheeky:

I am a CRT user. I have a couple notebooks w/TFT lcd monitors. I have never done research on anything lcd related. I was just curious. My bad for asking a question.
