Obviously it's better if he tells you himself, but Zylonbane sounds pretty happy with his Dell 2001FP. I think you can only get them second hand now though.

I just did some quick research on the 2007FP, and apparently they were manufactured with both S-IPS and PVA panels, making it a crapshoot what you end up with. The 2001FP, on the other hand, used S-IPS panels exclusively.
If you're on a budget, and want near-CRT viewing angles and color fidelity, I'd say grab a 2001FP off eBay. Or, a 2007FP if you're willing to pay a hundred or so more, and the seller can guarantee that it's an S-IPS panel. Like (

I'm very grateful that you mentioned the IPS/VPA issue. I'm making inquiries about a 2001fp and 2007fp. I've just found a very nicely priced 2001fp and have contacted the seller. I have also found an IPS 2007fp but it's quite expensive, although I would at least know what I'm getting.

To be fair, PVA is still a significant improvement over TN, so it's not much of a loss if you got one ;)
