The reveiwer probably means the detail in the blacks is better than a crt - which i agree with to a point. LCD atm cannot get black levels comparable to a CRT - LCD block the backlight coming through, CRT's just dont produce light because the phosphor isnt active in the blacks etc..

Depth of black on an LCD screen is not something you can capture with a digital camera.

no, you probably didn't read the review i linked before , they said "I'm using the black background on my desktop (always like it that way). When comparing the black levels against the CRT displaying the same background, the NEC leads by huge margin. Even on my old CRT black was not so "black" and there was always slight brightness involved when black background was in place. Quite impressed. It looks so good that it's comparable and even better than what you can have with the best CRT screens around."
So what means this?????

In this instance the reviewer is talking arse, there is NO lcd screen on the market (including my NEC) that will do better blacks than a CRT, period...!!!

If a CRT produces worse black levels than LCD then it has factory brightness settings wrong (this and focus reducing can occur if you use the monitor for many years). However this can be easily fixed by opening the monitor case and finding small screws that are used to adjust brightness and focus. Though one has to be very careful as there's a rather high voltage inside the monitor .

Ok but, i'd like to understand how can you play thief with your lcd, with mine, i can't, it's a very bad experience, and you can hardly see things in dark rooms.

What the make and model of your LCD - and I would hazard a guess, but I imagine its a cheaper TN based screen - which are crap for thief.

I'm still lokiing forward to your Dell 2209WA test/review/assessement, and whether it's "Thief approved" according to you (also with side-by-side comparison with NEC 20WGX2).
TIA!
Done, I have updated the 1st post.
