whats your budget ..?
Given the state of the economy, I've decided to economize and stick with my 19 inch Hitachi. It has served me well for the past 10 or 15 years.

I got the info from "TFT central" and they have always given solid reviews so had no reason to doubt, untuill now......
have you played with the controls? by defaul most monitors have their brightness and contrast set WAY too high out of the box. Set bot to 50% and turn on dynamic contrast and see how you get on. Also can you take some pic of the monitor in the dark with a blank screen saver active..
Im sorry that the monitor turned out to be a lemon, but if your a UK buyer you have 7days to send it back for a full refund. And even if your not based in the UK you should be able to send it back stating misrepersentation by the manufacturer - (eg the Contrast and black levels are not as advertised, not even close).

I'm still lokiing forward to your Dell 2209WA test/review/assessement, and whether it's "Thief approved" according to you (also with side-by-side comparison with NEC 20WGX2). Have you met with that .uk-based taffer (sorry, forgot his name) who bought 2209WA?
@that taffer with 2209WA: you you tried it with Thief and other dark games? Opinion on how it looks/plays etc?
TIA!

Yes i did, even with brightness to 0% and contrast to 100% nothing really change (contrast false colors if you go higher than 80 %). Me as well i bought this monitor after reading tft central rewiew, and prad rewiew.
I bought last month a Philips monitor tn 22" for 168 euros that was horrible and sold it away trough e-bay after a week, i thought that a S-PVA would be considerably better but i can assure you the difference doesn't worth the price, so i think i try to repair my crt quiker than possible and if it could be repaired i try to get a refund from seller. This time i bought it from internet and i can get a refund, i think i got 10 days.
Guys be aware of LCD in general!!!! Unless you want to spend a salary on a Led Display.

ok that is good.
Well I have some good news for you, if the weather is good Im gonna take my monitor (NEC 20WGX2Pro) upto Ostirig an compare to his Dell 2209WA. He is happy with it and several people have asked for me to compare it to mine and Im hoping that it will almost as good - which will be great as its half the price of the NEC...

Just saw this at (
http://johnanthonycurran.com/gamemods.html) JAC's Game Mods page (at the bottom):
Widescreen support for Thief, Thief Gold and Thief 2:
A Thief fan called weak-ling has released a widescreen mod creatively called DarkWidescreen. It works with all versions of the first two Thief games, and System Shock 2.
Go download (
http://files.filefront.com/DarkWidescreen+v6r2zip/;12436180;/fileinfo.html) V6R2 of the utility. Just extract it into the game folder, and run the DarkWidescreen.bat. Tell it what resolution you want, I find 1280x800 is pretty good. It works with DDFix, no file editing required!
Not having a widescreen (yet) I haven't tried it. But I thought I would pass the word along.
