I'm sick of the resource hogging of iTunes and tbh I find it not really user friendly, slow and the software on my iPod is naff.
I have this additional problem with iTunes and my iPod - if a track has any sort of glitch in it (and many of mine seem to have acquired one since I copied them all over from the old HD) it just skips to the next track.
I've asked about alternatives to iTunes before, but my iPod then broke (before I used an alternative) and I only got a new one recently. Plus I figure there must be some new stuff out there.
Can anyone help?

(
http://www.winamp.com) Winamp. I've heard wonderful things, and it has iPod support, but I don't want another media app on my computer, so I don't use it. Hope this helps

The iPod support appears to be in using WinAmp to put tracks on the iPod only. I was hoping for a full replacement of all Apple software.

(
http://www.mediamonkey.com/) Media Monkey?
This seems to be on par with iTunes, but I like it a bit better.
I hate iTunes as well. :(

RE: the glitch - have you tried formatting the iPod and porting everything over again? I used to get a situation with my old iPod where all CD-ripped tracks would be skipped, but doing the above tended to sort it out.

Apple Computer announced today that it has developed a computer chip that can store and play high fidelity music in women’s breast implants.
The iTit will cost $499 or $599 depending on speaker size.
This is considered to be a major breakthrough because women have always complained about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.

Matthew - yeah. It does it on the machine too. It's an iTunes thing. I had it on my last iPod too.
TBE - but can install it on the iPod?
Brnumbers - kindly piss off.

Ah, fair enough. You're looking for a replacement for the iPod software as well as the desktop software, then? I remember a few articles about users getting Linux onto their iPods, but I don't know if that would really assist you.

I think you're thinking of (
http://www.rockbox.org/) Rockbox, but support is limited for later generation iPods. You can check out the downloads section and see if they support what you have (they don't yet support the "classic", but they support the previous gen).

Update: Now been using Media Monkey for a while. Far, far faster than iTunes. I much prefer it. AND it's somehow fixed my old iPod which refused to work on iTunes - it wasn't recognised, couldn't be restored and didn't play. It's fine now so I have 2 iPods now!
The only thing is I can't find out how to autofill with Media Monkey. Otherwise it's great. Thanks TBE.
