Gonna crack open Clear Sky this summer...

I've had the game since September but have yet to actually open it up and install it due to the less-than-stellar reception and my video card being dead at the time. But as soon as my last official week of class is over (next week, if you don't count exam week) I'm going to stick that puppy in and give it a go.

So my question to you fellas is, what're the best mods for it? I'll be going into the game cold and from what I'm hearing, it's a lot crappier without mods than the original was (I plowed through the original in a week on a Geforce 6600 and finished the game the night the first patch was released and it was still a great game) so I was wondering what you guys thought I should use.

If you're one of these people who think SoC was great out of the box, don't bother with mods.

Besides, there aren't any.

He's pretty much right. The only CS mod I know of that's big at all is Solyanka, and that's buggy as hell...

I've never played CS myself, so I can't comment either way. For starters it's been a month since the v1.5.09 patch came and it still hasn't been rolled onto Steam yet.

Yeah, there aren't really mods for CS in the way there are for SoC. You could have a look over what's on filefront, but aside from real gun names, there's nothing I can really recommend. One issue with CS is that the upgrade system makes modding the weapons ten times harder than it was in SoC, if you want to do it properly. I would just play without mods.

If the games crashing every time when you lose your equipment, drop all your quest items and try again.

Try Sky Reclamation Project. It's still beta but it does to CS what ZRP did to SoC. You might also want to install a weapon mod (to reenable pistol ironsights) and also the less grenades mod.

There's also CS:Enhanced, which seems to be a mod compilation a la Oblivion Lost.

The thing is, there are many russian mods, which all look cool, but unfortunately, no one seems to bother translating them. I remember that there was a translation project for OGSM (Old Good Stalker Mod) though.

Oh christ, yeah. I forgot I had this. Definitely get it if you ever use the iron sights. I also modded shotguns to make them less pitiful against non-mutant enemies (this does probably make the swamps harder though).

So there are two big mods: Clear Sky Enhanced and Sky Reclamation Project. Might try the SRP at some point, if I can find the willpower to go and reinstall CS. What good minimods are there? I was using Gnomus's scopes and the new hand textures.
