Leaving in a few minutes to France. I'm not very optimistic about the outcome, but I'll do my part. :)

If you're not in France, where are you?
Kolya on 21/4/2007 at 10:27
Are you going for Ségolène Royal or François Bayrou?
rachel on 22/4/2007 at 13:39
Well, vote's in the box, now there's just the wait...
Turtle, I made up my mind months ago, to me there's really only one logical choice.
I vote for Royal, fwiw.
AGWPT, I'm in Barcelona, that's about 6hr drive from my place. I could vote in the consulate but I took an extra day off to see my catfamily ;)

If the French actually elect Sarkozy, I'll shit in my pants.
Jeshibu on 22/4/2007 at 20:59
Of course they won't.
It'll be Le Pen.

I hope the reasoning behind your voting for her is a bit more thought through than that of three pissed blokes I had the pleasure of overhearing on the nightbus home on Fri evening: "I vote for Segolene cause she's a woman!" :erg:
At any rate, your vote seems to have done the trick, since the second round is now
SEGO vs NICOAlso, almost 85% voters' participation - R'spec!

Nope.
I'm usually a PS follower, although I'm not interested or convinced enough to be a member of that party (or any party, for that matter). I do not always agree with her proposals but on the whole it is her program that seems to be the most suited for our future.
Secondly, I voted for the Green Party the last time, because I felt it was important to send a message about ecology to the PS candidate. What happened afterwards is something that I will likely remember everytime I'm going to cast a vote. There are very few parties and candidates who have any real chance to go to the second round. I made the mistake of trying to negotiate part of the potential government instead of supporting that actual candidate, and the result, coupled with a terrible campaign and the apathy of my fellow citizens, is that it caused that candidate to be kicked out. I will not make the same mistake twice. We're there to elect a President. Voting for minor parties will be for the Législatives, in a few months. Right now, we have to choose who will lead, and there was no room for error.
Also, on the other side this year we had someone who is a master in hypocrisy and deception. He managed to convince 11 million people he was the NEW GUY. I'm at loss to describe my feelings here because it's so obvious this guy is only interested in one thing. He didn't even hide it all these years. He started campaigning FIVE YEARS AGO, and he was a minister
all this time, and one of the most influentials when it comes to elections: the Ministery that
organizes them. He was still at the helm just three weeks ago!!
There's something very sad in seeing someone who blatantly lied to people, insulted them, stole ideas from the far right by giving them new names, completely ignores and insults his own collaborators, and scares the press into not saying anything against him... in seeing that guy win his way to the Office. He scares the hell out of me. And the next five years are going to be very, very tough.
Because let's face it. He owned the elections from day one. I will come back in two weeks to try and stop him, but I'm not hopeful.
France managed to cure the scar left by April 21st 2002. But apparently, it wasn't enough.

Sarkozy forever!!
lol, I have no idea who is who, but thought I'd stick my hand in :P
Isn't Sarkozy conservative? If so, I hope he wins. I know nothing of Royal except that she is a socialist, so I hope that she doesn't win. :D
N'AL, I know what you mean. Over here in America, everyone is saying that we need a woman as President to show that we are not sexist and to set things right, and that we need a black as President to show that we are not racist and to set things right. In the end I guess it has nothing to do with their political qualifications, but whether we want to be more sexist or more racist. :P
That should have absolutely nothing to do with it. You should elect the Executive leader of our country based on how well they can handle the job, not on their private parts and skin colour!! That IS racism and sexism. It is a backlash from the civil-rights movement. It seems that we can never have equality, but always one extreme or the other. :P I'll tell you what, if Condazzella Rice was to run, I'd vote for her, and it would have nothing to do with her private parts or her skin colour!! I'd vote for her because I think that she would make a good President. (and hey, then you wouldn't have to be racist or sexist ;))
