Seems that Gone Gold is quite unhappy with the game.

...Warren Spector said everything, absolutely everything I wanted to hear in his interviews about this game. His whole conception of the game, his philosophy of design, EVERYTHING--it was all brilliant. I absolutely could not wait to play.
So it particularly pains me to say that this game was misnamed. They should have named it Deus Ex Invisible War: The Half-Ass Console Port. Actually, Released Two Months Early should probably be in that title somewhere, because there is absolutely no way this game should have been released in its current state. Everything that involved any kind of additional work for the PC is either illogically designed, unoptimized, or just not done at all...

At the opening menu, you can change the screen resolution. No problem. However, that resolution isn't saved. It's only saved inside a saved game file. When you load the saved game, your video settings load. That is one of the strangest and most illogical things I've ever seen
Good god. Dont tell me they left that in the final release.

Sigh. These guys (IS) are better been burning midnight oil to get the patch released ASAP. They had three years to get everything right and so far they managed to botch the very basics of gaming- playability and tech stuff. Not very professional, if you ask me.

Bill is unhappy with the game, Bill also complained that H&D2 was too complex for him, Bill does not represent the collective opinions of the Gone Gold community.

I just got the game last night, and all of the demo bugs are in the final release. The most egregious bug is the problem with the permissions on the .ini file preventing user settings from being saved. How that one could have made it through QA is beyond me. You have to wonder whether anyone even bothered to test the 1.0 release on the PC before going gold.

Demo bugs in the FINAL release?
ROTFLMAO...
Not even Blizzard is THAT bad...

Hmm ...
Suddenly, I'm glad I didn't upgrade my OS from Win98 Original in preparation for Invisible Wars.
If half of what I read here about IW is accurate, I have saved my money. Thanks guys.
Ion Storm, were you guys on zyme when making DX:IW?
bob on 4/12/2003 at 15:47
Well maybe you should upgrade anyway. Just about anything is better than win98 except winME. ;)
Also most of the negative comments about the game are about either the demo or aesthetics in general or both. Just about everyone I have seen talk about the game who has spent several hours playing it, likes it. I myself havent played the full version yet. Probably wont for a month or so. :(

From reading peoples impressions from actually playing the game, it seems pretty good (technical issues aside). I'm actually looking forward to it now, instead of somewhat dreading it for fear of what I might find.
Of course, your mileage may vary

The game went gold before the demo came out, which is why there are bugs in both the demo and the game.
The video setting thing is really fucking stupid, that's for sure. Anyone who is going to play the game should check this thread out, which has some really good information on tweaking the .ini files to make things better:

Once I had things tweaked to my liking, the game did get much better. The interface is still quite clumsy for a keyboard and mouse, though I imagine it is very slick for Xbox users.
