To make them look real the author simply hadn't to change them :) Colors are pretty much real in original game, the game's look is based upon photos after all. It's just that people are used to oversaturated colors in games and often think the more colors the better.

I love Stalker's colours in WO. It makes the game look much more realistic, and the dusk colours aren't that exaggerated. (Not knowing what real-world dawn looks like as getting up before noon is for noobs, I can't really say how accurate WO's dawn is, though maybe it could be adjusted a bit.)
WO makes SoC look like the CS screenshots, which seem to be using a very different weather system itself. And how bad could that be?

Didnt like Weather overhaul very much. Some stuff looked really cool (Inside Freedom base during a bright day for example) but overall the colors are way too overstated (especially at dawn/dusk. "Dayum i got strawberry jam on my goggles again"). I did keep some of its settings tho like the fake AA and sunshine adjustments.
WO automatically changes the contrast/brightness settings. You can change them back in the menu; personally I always decrease them to default values, othervise it's just too bright.

It does more than just automatic brightness changes. You have to overwrite the entire user.ltx file with a preset the WO author made. And in the max preset, he even maxes out AA, which happens to be non-existent in STALKER and often causes nasty problems.

I seriously don't understand the point of AA in today's games. This is not 2001 where models had about 300 polygons. Models these days, with no AA, look way, way better than models of 8 years ago. Yes I know that's stating the obvious, but it needs to be pointed out. There's just no point in killing yourself over getting 20x AA when the game looks just fine on 4x AA.
Koki on 24/3/2008 at 08:47
So you use 4xAA and you don't understand the point of AA?
Besides AA is not about models, it's about resolution...

I never said I did. I was just using 4x AA as an example. Why worry about having lots of AA when only a little is needed, or indeed none at all?
Speaking of polygons... anyone ever notice how ugly your hands are when holding a SPAS-12? It's awful- like it's at half the polygons of any other hand model.

Erm.. actually I meant colors in original game without mods ;) With WO the colors aren't realistic, and BTW they also aren't realistic in Doom3, Far Cry, or Crysis f.e.

Aren't you referring to lighting there? Doom 3 is a good example of a game that has lights that don't generate realistic lightwaves, each surface eats them up completely. Pretty much all games use this method.
But never the less, the author could experiment with more normal colors to make a more realistic version of the day/night cycles.

No, I was referring to color saturation in those games.

I see nothing wrong with it in Doom 3. Maybe the few outside areas need proper color, but the in-door lighting seems true to what lights are placed.
