I'm going to replay stalker soon, any recommendation on mods? I'm looking for mods that would:
-improve AI (I'm sick of NPCs burning themselves to death in campfires etc)
-improve weapons (accurancy etc)
-allow repairing of items (armors)
-remove that annoying sound when using nightvisions
-improve performance (A64 singlecore+x1950pro agp is not exactly a high performer)
-maybe add some balance tweaks/fix broken quests?
thx..

Well, just seeing the thread title, I'd have recommended the Redux mod, but seeing your requirements now, I'm not sure it's what you'd want. Redux mod changes most of the thing you mention, but a lot other things too - all in all, it makes the game more realistic and harder.
Also, what's with the performance problems? I have a single core P4 3,0GHz and an x1950pro agp, and I struggled to make the game go below 20 fps with absolutely maxed out settings - that means a little tweaking and it's all over 30. That's good performance in my book.

sounds good,I will check it out..as for performance,it was just a suggestion,I have heard of some modified shader files some time ago.
hope they killed the nightvision sound as well.

Ah, the modified shader files ... that must be the Float32 mod. That, of course, is a must have.
I use the Redux mod v1.02 (it's for 1.0004), Float32, and Siro's sound mod. Latter changes all voices/dialogue to russian, and changes/adds a number of other sounds.

I too have been mod hunting, but I can't seem to find a more comprehensive mod that doesn't have ten changes that I like, but coupled with five or six that I don't like. (this is just from reading the descriptions, not actually trying them out.)
So I think I'll got for something simple like the realistic weapons mod, since that's all it changes and that's something I want. I would like some changes to spawning and AI but OLmod and Redux and things have all this other stuff like darker nights (Why you'd want to do that I don't know. The nights in my game are exactly like walking around the wilderness on a starlit night. It's perfect) and I can't be arsed fiddling around to take half the mod out after I just put it in. I'll give them a try one day though

I'm playing with three mods at the moment:
1. aliVe (Includes Raw Onion Revamp 1.03, Shebuka's Repair Mod 2.5, Bardak's 1.0004 Bugfix, Zone Reclamation Project 1.03, Stalkers are not Blind 0.99)
2. PLR's Realistic Weapons 2.0
3. STALKER Weather Overhaul
(Also No Time Limit on Quests and increased weight limit, but who cares)
This pretty much covers all your requirements except for removing nightvision sound(people use nightvision?).
aliVe is the workhorse here, it's similiar to the old A-Life mod if you know it. Basically it loosens restrictions on NPC/mutant movements so they wander much more, it makes them more diverse(I.e. you can meet Expert Bandits wielding rifles in Garbage, there are more rookie models etc.) and the best part, it makes the factions in game actually fight each other - there are several "camps" on each map that factions will try to capture and hold which is pretty cool. At the same time it tunes down respawns somewhat so you won't have to fight five hundred Bandits each time you turn away from the entrance to Agroprom. Mutants are more aggressive and there are more of them(i.e. Pseudodogs - the real ones that is, not blind dogs - and Fleshes spawn at Cordon) and a few cut mutants added(cats, burers). Some NPCs spawn more logically now(I.e. Guide is always in Cordon), few small quests added(Give Wolf AK74, bring Scientific Medkit to Fox, etc.), TOZ is back, time flies twice as slow, sleeping bag, some other minor stuff. Integrated mods are:
Raw Onion Revamp - text corrections, i.e. better grammar, the text is now what NPCs actually say, etc.
Repair Mod - self-explanatory
Bardak 1.0004 Bugfixes/Zone Reclamation Project - Bardak bugfixes were great, and Zone Reclamation Project is ongoing continuation of them.
Stalkers Are Not Blind - Stalkers will avoid anomalies instead of walking into them like morons.
PLR's Realistic Weapons is pretty straightforward - applies the statistics of real weapons to these in-game based on grouping, muzzle velocity and barrel lenght. Also gives guns real names. Still needs some small corrections, but I still chose it over other gun mods precisely because it's still in development.
STALKER Weather Overhaul - Biggest of the mods(41.9MB), it completely replaces the sky texture(Sun rises on the east and progresses through the sky) and tweaks many values making STALKER look much more realistic(and better). Inlcudes StalkerSkies and Float32. Should be noted that the mod was also tweaked for all the Static Lightning people, so you're not getting short end of the stick. Has an option to make nights brighter though I don't use it, I just sleep at night. Duh.
As for the nightvision, I'm sure there is a minimod for it somewhere, or just ask someone how to do it on GSC Stalker Mod forums.
Oh, and about the night - believe me, in a place with no civilization around(No city halos) in moonless/starless night, it's really fucking dark.

trying out redux right now, looking good :cheeky: ..one more thing I forgot: is there a mod that fixes the all nearby enemies suddenly aware of you after reload issue/feature? that one is really bugging me as it makes stealthy approach almost impossible..its present in the redux mod, btw.

I recently restarted Stalker with Alive Mod and its great.
Stalkers dont wander into anomalies like dumbasses anymore, they have more/different weapons (Fox got the hunting rifle for example and quite a few military guys got SPAS12. Which means you get to use them before theyre made obsolete because you got 5.56/7.62 ammo coming out of your ears. Clearing bandit camps with it is fun, go-go crowd control), Repair mod integrated, Bardak fixes integrated, new monsters (Burer in the Agroprom sewers. And i thought that damn place couldnt get more unnerving), spawns and camps revamped (for example there were duty guys at the train depot in the garbage and some bandits took over the bus stop in front of it) and i think i saw some new dialog here and there. I also think i saw a Stalker picking up an artifact, not quite sure on that tho (he was ducking and doin stuff on the ground, was night tho so i couldnt see if it was artifact glow or just the flashlight). Highly recommendable.
Didnt like all the darker nights stuff at all. Ive wandered in forests at night and had people switch off the lights on me while being on the crapper so i know places can get dark indeed but in games i just feel its bothersome and/or a strain on the eyes if everything is ass-dark

I've been camping the bush miles from anywhere and Stalker is pretty much bang on (in Cordon at least, other places vary). You can make out the landscape basically (trees, hills etc), but there's no details. If you're managing you can even forget that you can't see, until you trip over something or hear some strange noise very close by (Something that's happened in the game and in real life). Human eyes can see a surprising amount under moonlight or starlight.
Apparently Stalker's nights are a bit brighter if you haven't got full dynamic lighting on, which might be annoying. Everyone else should just turn down the gamma or something
Alive sounds great though. I think I'm in need of the game changing completely, now that I think about it.
btw; where can I get alive or ALive or aliVe or whatever it is? The filefront catalogue isn't much help
